    Hi Rick,
My father joined the RAF at 17 in 1941.
Being colour blind between red and green (which he hadn't realised until then!) clobbered his ambition to be a Spitfire pilot.๐Ÿค”
He became a Radar Technician, a rare beast at that time, and after D Day followed the RAF fighter squadrons across Europe erecting radar stations. His favourite squadron was #29 Spitfires. I inherited his Squadron Badge.
The only stories he told of that time were about building the antenna masts out of empty beer cans, and what went on during the emptying! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Never a word about what he must have seen and witnessed along the way.
    Cheers, Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž

You say your father never talked much about his time in the war am not sure that's not the case for most of our fathers.Probably most were late teens early twenties when they went to war and came back far different then when they left today it may be PTSD. These are only my thought.

Thank you for your trouble I would appreciate receiving the email.
I found an interesting article on google by an engineer officer who was on the Crornwell when she went down in April 1942. Fortunately my Dad must have left in Mombasa after she docked to refuel. He never spoke much of his wartime experience.

    Hi Bill,
Wasn't so hard once I knew roughly which period to look for.
I have had a digital subscription for some years so I just rooted through my
'Library'. Started at August 2019, found nowt and hopped back and forth from there studying the Covers and contents pages.๐Ÿ˜€

However; the article is mostly about the kit and I suspect that Andrew wants more of the history of the real ship. So these links might be more useful Andrew๐Ÿ‘
Happy reading, hope some of it is useful๐Ÿคž
    Cheers, Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I am missing two magazines August 2019 and Janaury2020. I think the article was in the August Issue. If you can trace it I would appreciate it if you would scan it to email as our postal service is hit and miss.
    email snr@turpin.co.za
In the meantime I will try and trace it on the web as was suggested. Thanks so much.
