For all of my fast launch or patrol/torpedo boats I use outrunner brushless motor set ups with lipo batteries as they are much more powerful and efficient than brushed motors. This gives good scale planing speeds at partial throttle with lots of extra power when needed. From Hobbyking they are quite cheap and reliable when used correctly. As model gets bigger the brushless outrunner set up becomes much more effective compared to brushed as greatly increased torque from whole weight of motor rotating with shaft.

The model is of a 63ft Type 2 HSL.

She was based in Malta, probably Sliema or Marsaxlokk on the south coast.
(A pretty fishing village with a great weekend market BTW 😊)

    Hi OD,
Black 5 motors are sold by Deans (surprise surprise πŸ™„)
    http://deansmarine.co.uk/shop/product_info.php/cPath/5_13/pr...
Looks like a decent meaty motor, and with 5 poles will be good for smooth starts and plenty of torque to GET GOING!!
Don't forget the Build Blog πŸ‘
    Cheers, Doug 😎

    Hi Old-duffer,
I have had a quick look around but could you give us more information such as dimensions and possibly photos of the kit.
