Thanks cheddarman. Looks like the same boat, has the same name but in the link it is in Agios Nikolaos Crete which is just round the coast from Elounda. It is definitely a Turkish Gulet.

Just answering a question about the club run at night & yes some guys go overboard with lighting hope I can photo some of the more exotic lighted model boats. Here is my Gumboot Cloggeroo lobster model boat with a few lights . That name is a song by Stompin Tom Connors a Canadian song writer .

If you are looking for very low cost lighting ( that is not scale ), I purchased extra blinking bicycle lights that are battery powered. These are small cubes that emit red or white and I am sure others as well.

I just place it on my boat and let it go at my pond. They are bright and fun to watch.

I try and keep mine as they would be in real life, this is just one of my tugs.
The reason they are so bright is that a few of the members of my old club could not see the duck house in day light, let along a model boat.

The model boat club I'm in will hold a boats in the park at night on Thursday Sept.19th at 6:30 P.M. At Spencer's pool in Burlington . We do get a lot of spectators that enjoy the lighted model boats So I figured I'd better install some lights on my Andrea Gail the photo isn't that good but it will have to do for now. P/S installing lights sure is a pain ! And I'll take a few shots when it's darker.

Peejay, no barge for this one as it (real one) is a "stoplog" boat that operates at the Little Goose Dam on the Snake River out in Washington State (US). It is used to prevent logs and debris from entering the lock an intakes for the hydro-electric generators. The real one is owned by the US Army Corps of Engineers.

I'm thinking of making a bunch of logs for it to move around. Did you notice the crew man on the bow with a logging pole?

Hello Garth, the puffers did most of their trade on the Forth and Clyde canal in Scotland, and were known as Clyde Puffers.
But they have been in existence since 1856 to 1939. There is loads of history on the Internet.

Hello, a dream came true. I could take the โ€œCAP SAN DIEGOโ€ from Cuxhaven to Hamburg.
An early present for my 60th birthday from my dear woman.

    It started at 11 a.m.

The weather was great, great visibility, sunshine and around 23 degrees warm. So perfect.
And every now and then a stiff breeze

First on board, there was a CAP SAN DIEGO coffee mug.
It was immediately filled with coffee and a nice Franzbrรถtchen.

For lunch there was spaetzle with sliced โ€‹โ€‹meat and for coffee there was more coffee and muffins with cherries or blueberries.

    Finally get on board.

A shanty choir played as a welcome and occasionally during the journey

My wife and myself have returned from a rushed, but rewarding, week in the North West of Tasmania, Aust.

Our son insisted I accompany him and have a look at the Devonport Maritime Museum. Well worth it, with models of a lot of historical vessels, from clinker rowing boats through to windjammers, naval vessels and the evolution of ferries to the mainland.

Models include Slocum's 'Spray', SS Southern Cross, the oldest clinker dinghy in Australia, build using Huon Pine, and thought to be approx. 140 years old, and the Cutty Sark, which plied wool from Sydney to the UK.

    Well worth the trip.

Roycv, I have just checked to see if i had more on the Spray, however only found one from a little further away. It gives a better look at the hull and deck. I have attached anyhow.

Also attached is a photo of the deck etc of the Lady Nelson. There is a replica in Hobart which is popular for harbour sailing or adventure voyages.

The original was built on the Thames and launched in 1798.

    Interesting website.

Nice set of pictures. I have always liked the Spray. But there are many versions of it among the plans available.
I am thinking of doing a deck layout on a 32 inch yacht hull I have which will be similar in layout to this boat.

My only enemy is anno domini as it edges on day by day. Today though it is off sailing on the pond.

Peterd, I have been using the default settings on the camera. Supposed to be a fairly "simple" aka "point and shoot" but there are a lot of settings and I need to see what is best.

It is a new camera but has been around for a while. I bought it because of the ratings, price, and features like splash proof, dust proof, and a good zoom, 4K HD, all is essential for me in photographing model boats and tanks.

IanL1, thanks for the comment. First time using this camera. Working on ways to improve my stabilizing the video. I try to zoom in as much as possible and keep the model close to full frame.

For those that are interested, in my video app (on my PC), which is what I use to create the video, I slowed down the tug to about 80%. This gives the model a more realistic look. What do think?

The saga of the leaking Clive Puffer Several friends had mention to me that the prop needed to be above the water line so out came stuffing box mounted motor higher so prop shaft above water line & replace shaft & prop shaft . While doing all this It donned on me like a light going off that the rubber shaft was lower than the water line & I think water was entering up rudder shaft . Photo shows area where water was when it was in water & the tube for the rudder shaft was below that so added more stern depth .Made up another rudder shaft that is higher & tube is also now higher.

Also... as you can see in the photo, the prop shaft is horizontal and sits about 2 inches (50mm) below the waterline. No leaks if you make the stuffing box long enough and use the right sealant lube.

Chum444, is your "stuffing box" the size of the large diameter tube under the large filler and the rest of the shaft slips into the shaft tube? If so, the sealing area seems kind of small.

My preference is to have a fairly large sealing area. For example, using the attached drawing, the two ends where the shaft slip fits into are each about 5/8 inch long leaving a long void between the shaft OD and the tube's ID. [EDITED: this area is filled with the sealant lube.] Thus I have no problem with leakage when the entire shaft is below the waterline.

As promised A few photos & some members models in Spencer's pool Burlington. Some of the boats shown are from other model clubs mostly Toronto modelers so I can't mention names of members boats because I don't know their names. Still lots of time for sailing & the puffer still leaks so I'll put stuffing box on a steeper up angle above water line. I just love fixing a problem with my model boats.

Just a thought. Is your shaft log filled with a waterproof grease? I have a couple of models where the motor end of the shaft log is below the waterline. They are packed with waterproof grease which stops water incursion.
