๐Ÿ“ Casting a lead bulb keel

Cenbeth - great write up with picys, the process can be daunting when casting - I have tried 3 metods to produce a keel bulb - thought i would also share my experiences .
    (1.Casting 2.Shaping 3.Filling)

    1. Shape a wooden keel bulb and from it produced a concrete 1/2 mould (*leave concrete to cure/dry) then cast as two lead halves.

2.Cut lead sheet profiles to diminishing templates, glue together and shape to bulb profile.

3.Used 1/2 wooden keel mould to Vac form two plastic keel bulbs which can be filled with lead shot/or concrete - then stuck together.
    Mni tnx

Again tnx fer comments, its nice to share our experiences and hopefully encourage new blood into the hobby. (Young or Old) !
Having not yet posted in the "Forum" department as a newbi to the website I am just testing how the "comment, share and post" selections work and how they interact with the "Forum" and the "Boat Habour" etc. - any advice would be kindly received !.

Just one final comment on the Wee Nip - even with just rudder only, its forgiveing, satisfying and connvenient plus with "artistic licence" its a great project to learn all about sailing, materials, design and how to have fun.
Well done to designer Graham Bantock
    Enjoy

Tnx fer comments re interest in the Wee Nip, I must admit that "Uni" rigs do appeal to me.
Since I resurrected an old "Mickey Finn" a few years ago , I also fancied a Laser and managed to acquire one last year - but in terms of grab and go fun sailing, more often than not its the Wee Nip !.

Am really enjoying the website and thanks again for the comradeship !

Hi , I have enjoyed building and sailing a number of "Wee Nip`s" over the last few years - Quick and easy to rig, just fun to sail. Sadly now only in possession of one - but love it to bits !.
