J Class Style Pond Yacht - Rescued from the skip and given a new lease of life to sail again as "Rudder only" radio controlled.

Quick and simple solution to save those action moments - Pair phone or tablet with GoPro camera app, or simply record with remote via wifi.
    RC Laser
RC Laser - not a home brew of course, but for many years an object of desire due to simplicity of design, assembly, aesthetics and convenience. Love the Laser, but the Wee Nip still my "go to" boat.
    Mickey Finn
Purchased original Rojair Mickey Finn from Ashton Models 35 years ago - hull suffered damaged so made a F/G mould before repairing and sailing. Made spare hull from mould and there she sat for 35+ years. Original Mickey was sold many years ago but as retirement approached the burning desire to fulfill old challenges re-emerged. So , after putting out calls for help, diagrams, photos or information on the model boat forums, thanks to "John Dowd" and a couple of other guys, I finally got round to resurrecting this fantastic 36" yacht.
    "Genie"
"Genie" was classic Marblehead design from Vic Smead , she had a hard chine hull construction. Living in New Zealand in the early 70`s I ended up building 4 of these in total - only glad I took some picies. Long gone now, but not forgotten !

This website contains so much information for current and potential new modellers - and it is a credit to the hard work and effort that is put in by all the administration team. WELL DONE !.

With so many Clubs and Lakes registered, it would be great to see more photos of members models within this specific area, to showcase each individual clubs range of interest and involvement.
Christmas Greetings to all and stay safe !.

Some details of Thor. by Buxton Model Boat Club Member Dean Ratcliffe.

Thor is a freelance design of a multicat vessel. These rather unusual ships are real workhorses, designed as a work platform, often with a hiab crane. The square hull gives a large flat deck, with plenty of open space for a work area or for deck cargo. The design also enables the vessel to be used as a tugboat, either pushing or towing and are often equipped with large deck winches and strong points for this purpose. A true Swiss army knife of the sea, able to adapt to most roles, some even have additional internal fuel tanks for refuelling other vessels. Despite their size and ungainly shape, they are surprisingly agile and seaworthy ships, have a look at Youtube.
Thor was my first scratch built model, so probably not one of my better ones, but has proven to be reliable, sails well for a box, and serves well as a rescue boat. Almost all the construction materials are recycled/upcycled, and is a very simple construction and quick to build. A single, former drill motor powers a single propeller, and is steered by a single rudder, and despite the limited controls and boxy hull, she will turn in her own length, however due to the tall wheelhouse, she does get pushed around by the wind a little, so can make manoeuvring "interesting". The deck cargo is just for interest and serves no other purpose, due to the offset wheelhouse, I had to add extra ballast on the starboard side as
a counter balance, this was just some steel rod I had, which is stuck inside the hull with some silicon sealer.
