   @zooma A DF65 was the first RC model I bought, an ARTR kit in my case to get some time on the water and get used to RC before I got a power boat! I soon picked it up so you will have no problem withy your experience.
   
   This site has prices for DF65 and DF95 and I bought my DF65 and spare parts from there before it changed ownership. This will let you compare with prices say on Ebay. Given the number sold for general sailing and racing you shouldn't have any problem picking a reasonably priced one up.
   
   They do race the smaller one in quite windy and rough conditions but obviously the bigger one will handle those conditions better. The racers will change the sails dependant on the weather conditions but I can't be bothered with that and keep the bigger A Suit (as they are called) of sails on all the time and only sail in average conditions.

   Used Dragon Flight 95.
   
   I think I may start looking-out to see if a used Dragon Flight 95 should become available.
   
   As an absolute beginner with no sailing knowledge or experience, I think a used example would be the best idea for me as the yacht will probably already be “sorted”, and no doubt the seller could pass on some basic hints and tips that I would find more that helpful.
   
   If I should ever find out how to drive it, I could always treat myself to a newer one in the future if I should wear-out or damage my first one after I learn how it works…….and what to do when it doesn’t work !
   
   I have never looked to see how often s/h sailing yachts come up for sale, or know what sort of savings can be made over buying new, but I will start by asking around and see what comes-up.
   
   I am not necessarily set on finding a Dragon Flight 95, but it is one that has been suggested may suit our Southport club lake better than some of the other types…….?
   
   ……..or maybe the smaller Dragon Force 65 would be better to learn with..?

   I've raced these, and they're great fun. I have tremendous respect for the designers and manufacturer of this class. They're not perfect - nothing is - but they're remarkably good and complete kits, and they sure sail well. I think the DF95 is even better - I certainly think it sails better, though it's a little less nimble.

   I agree @ChrisF I love sailing, both dinghy, yacht, or model. Years ago my Uncle found a planked model boat hull sat on a bonfire that hadn't been lit yet. He asked if he could have it, and was told yes. My Dad put a deck on it, worked out mast size, and sails dimensions, made all of the rigging, and fitted a servo and sail winch.
   My Uncle has the model again at present, but hasn't done anything with it for many years, so I plan to see if I can have it.
   She's a big old lump, the hull is about 5', and the with the mast on, about 7' from bottom of the cast keel bulb to the mast top.

   @ChrisF One of our future Sea Commander owners (he has just fitted some strakes to his new build hull) suggested that the Dragonflite 95 would probably be a better bet than the Dragonforce 65 that he was sailing on the club lake last Sunday.
   
   A few years ago, I was seriously interested in getting started with one of these yachts and actually went as far as registering a sail number!
   
   I have no idea if this number would still be available for me to use, but I was told last week that there is a group that race these on the bigger full size yacht club lake here on the seafront one evening each week.
   
   Perhaps I should find out a bit more about it and go along to take a look?

   @zooma I would Bob, it's a completely different experience to making white water! You need a few to make it interesting though. We used to race at our club but Covid stopped it and it never started again. Having said that once a few of us get on the water unofficial racing always kicks off!
   
   The Dragonflite 95, as you allude to, might be a better option on your lake.

   I have often pondered about buying a Dragon Force 65 and admire those that can compete with them in this “one make” controlled class.
   
   The slightly larger size of similar type and make also appeal.
