About this boat

Mermaid is built from a fibreglass hull I purchased on ebay. I saw it several times and finally gave in and purchased it. It is from "bhc" and it is a good quality product. They have many types of hulls but no plans so you are on your own. I decided it would be a sport fisherman with a cuddy cabin and outboard motor. I made many cardboard patterns till I was satisfied.

I always wanted to try an outboard. Motor shell was purchased from Graupner and fitted with an Astro 05 motor that I had on hand. (I may change that).
Haven't really tried it yet, but goes well in the Jacuzzi. It not quite finished yet

Graphics are by "Callies" they are an internet company that will make you anything you want at a reasonable price.
They were very understanding and cooperative. I highly recommend them. It was much cheaper and easier than buying your own vinyl cutter

I made a mod to my motor using an OS 45FSR muffler bolted to the side of the leg and making a blanking plate for the std exhaust. This made it a lot quieter as you can imagine (the original was pretty loud,- old American std)

It was a K&B 7.5 outboard that I had on a tunnel hull.It was sprayed Black with gold pins stripes like the J. Player Special. I then gave it to my brother. I will try to find pictures of it.

Had the same motor (MK 1 version) on the back of my own design tunnel, went quite well but had a job getting main bearings (odd size) so re built it and sold it.

    Thank you for interest,.

I mostly like the building. I build scale models which always go too fast. I have an brushed motor admirals barge that at full throttle lifts about the first third of the boat out of the water.

I also bought this thing as a wreck and totally restored it. Looks nice, runs great, never had it in the water.

I bought an outboard with no motor, so I purchased a brushless motor, I cannot remember what size it is. I have mounted it in a F1 Tunnel hull. I don't have any pictures of that at the moment. But I also have a Graupner Rhode island F1 tunnel hull with an outboard. Still haven't had the pleasure of running it. I must say I'm afraid of it as I know it will be fast and my record on F1 Tunnel hulls is not too good. I crashed the last one way back in the 80's. It had a Glow motor in it.
It wasn't too bad but then I decided to add some extra Nitro into the existing fuel. Way too much, turned into a lethal weapon hit the side of the pond. I then did the same in a Hydrofibre Pipedream with a 61 engine that bent the conrod and smashed it into 2 pieces. 🙈😂. I'm somewhat of a speed freak.

Here are some pictures of the outboard. It is a Graupner 500 size. I think it looks O.K., maybe a little big. I was going to build an outboard well and make it look more scale, but this is my first go with an outboard so I kept it simple and just screwed it on the transom. The motor is an old Astro 05 because it was on hand and it fit. I fabricated a coupler to make it work. Turning is with a simple pushrod arrangement. I did try it once and it planed nicely on 9.6V. I had a small 1.6 amp battery that died quickly. Originally I had a 3 blade prop ( had that on hand too) now I changed to a two blade 40mm that I purchased. Nice "Evinrude" graphics is from Callies
