I think it was a stroke of brilliance to build ships during the war in as many places as possible and also to build parts of ships, then transport them from all over to put together in the final shipyard. Particularly as this was not only confined to small vessels. Even the Liberty Ships, large, cargo ships, for those days, were built in various places, then brought to a final shipyard for completion. Of course this practice is continued today, many large ships being built in sections, sometimes even in different countries.

Nicely done. I have a soft spot for HDML's as four were built just down the road from me, a little before my time though. Built in Maine, Served in Australia. Couldn't they have found a closer yard to build them? LOL
