Here is another of my RC collections this the Revell of Germany Corvette SNOWBERRY. My spouse got this kit 7 years ago for my 64th birthday. I never got one of these before I know that Matchbox made this kit and went out of buisness. in overal view this is the Matchbox kit. I was overjoyed when my wife present this kit to me.After opening the kit examining the contents in the kit the hull comes in four peices two bow sections port and starboard. Two stern sections Port and Starboard.. To my horror they gave me two port bow sections. all there to do is to email the company and filed a complaint about the problem but it got worse. with the instruction sheet in my hand I gave them the part No. I need the Starboard bow section 2 weeks later they sent me another port bow section now I have 2 of them. This time I gave them a piece of my mind, I finally called up the company and filed my complaints. they were very humbled over this and they opoligized greratly. 3 weeks later a UPS truck pulled in. the driver approached my door with a huge box and a package I wondered with excitement whats this of. They sent me a new kit and the starboard bow section. What a del of the century, you dont see that no more.

As to the kit a modlers delight this kit is loaded anyone who has built this kit will share the same experince to the attention of detail. the hull length is 36 inch,s scale is 1/72 there aree plenty of room for your RC gear it to can make a good static model as well. Mine is powered by a dumas 6.0 volt electric motor with speed controll. 2 channel system. to make a stronger model for RC opperation use epoxie. The hull comes in 4 sections leaveing no seams to fill. on back of the instruction sheet they give you a selection of color schemes and ships names. I like the north Atlantic color schedule. So I modeled mine as the Snoewberry. These kits still can be purchased I see thgem all the time on ebay.

Thank you for your reply I am honered. The other 3 were given away as Christmas presents. Deals of yesteryear are over with the price of plastic his 10 to 20 times higher then the price I paid back in that day. What once was a retail price of $11.95 is now $100.00 and going up.The details of the kit it is scaled in a odd scale of 1/225 giveing you a model length of 36 inch,s just under a meter. the kit came with a gearbox that opperated the turrets, torpedo tubes and turning the twin screws. in order to sail the selected course, there are 4 cams that ride off the gearbox circle, square figure eight, and straight . this was gimic model there were many in the 1950, through the 1960,s but much seriousness is applied to scale and RC these gimic models are now radio controlled. the insides are quite small to work with. But still large enought to modifiy it to RC opperation. get rid of the relic gearbox and 9.0 electric motor, you need to add a 6 volt motor and gear reduction box. speed controll and a new rudder linkage system. Still today the kit is still worth looking in to. The only modification I made as to the overal perspective of appearence is the Hull I am a retired navy man of 30 years I have a trained eye for destroyers I served on 4 of them. the kits hull from the bridge superstructure to the bow the camber is allwrong useing plastic surgury and sheet plastic that portion of the hull has to be raised up to the proper camber, I also added bilge keels the kit didn,t have them. all kits from the 1950,s throught the 60,s never paid that much attention to scale and detail. not much nit picken in that da neither.

this model dont need any introduction because there are thousands upon thousands of these kits were produced and even being produce as I post this this build. I purchased this kit when it was first released in 1963. there was a discount store that sold anything from appliances to plastic models. I went in there one day to see what they have, there to my delight and surprise there was a stock table that must have had atleased a 100 or more of these kits they were sold for $11.95 but the only way the store could sells these they marked them down a little more then half price, the sale tag on the stock table and the kit was $ 4.95 with a steal of a deal I couldn,t refuse. I bought 4 of them for $ 20.00. the kit was a typical gimic model for that day it was designed and ran on 6 D cell flashlight batteries, opperating a cam gear box that opperated the 5 inch closed mount turrets torpedo tubes and the twin screws. Also in the kit you a choice of courses that could be set if desired useing a cam that worked off the gear box. 10 years ago I scuttled the gearbox and modernized it with up to date RC she runs on a 6 volt dumas electric motor with a gear reduxction turning two screws and speed control Boats

Here is my George Ferris Emergency cargo Steamer the first all wood trampsteamers. durring the first world war the U-boats were sinking more cargo vessels then what they could produce. ECF aquired under contract to George Ferris to construct a lot of these old steamers because they were made from wood, These were the liberty ships od the first world war. Here is my trampsteamer S>S> GEORGE FERRIS She is RC powered by a dumas 6 volt electric motor with speed controll.

here is a few pictures underway and display of my 1978 issue Lindberg PT-109. I had this old boat for 32 years for power nothing to get excited about. not to much into speed but she goes fast enought not enough to raise the bow out of the water. I didn,t use the kit motor it was to much of a toy its design was primarley used for pool opperation. there for I replaced it with dumas 6 volt electric motor useing the kits reduction gearbox they give you. at the time of the build I had no forsight discard it, perhaps in the near future Iwill scuttle it and use 2 direct 6 volt motors the gear reduction slows down the speed pretty much if you use scale speed it is good for cruiseing at 6 knotts. the gear reduction has been coated with grifite grease as long as I had this old relic there are no wear on the gear teeth so she is good to go untill I decide to scuttle this old gear box. Here are a few attachments of this ols sailor

Thats how you do it John I built mine the same way from her keel to the fore top. These Hatman douglas Greg Tugs are very popular to scale boaters. they are a lot different ever scince Harbor models got there hands on it. Like I memtioned before when Dwight was ghetting Ill all the molds went to Steve Lillard they were all destroyed because he didn,t use the proper mold release agent. Harbor has done a fine job reconstructing the molds. Take your time it will be a fine tug when done and one heck of a show stopper. Franklyn

After you buy the hull, get the plans if they sell them or not you can take them and build it from scratch, Thewre are two sets of plans Dwight had drawn, 1st set is the tug itself and the detail to build it, and the set NO.2 the detail plan set these are a must. This plan sets offers you more detail then the first set does, and it it has a detail section to show you how to construct the lights that work for the towinbg lights and running lights. A great set at $245.00 for the hull it is a steal at todays prices I would get the hull and get the plans you will have a project to behold.

John Ever scince the late Dwight Hartman passed away the kit was re manufactured by Harbor models. I am one of the original owners of this kit hull NO.27 I got this in 1971 when it was first released. Dwight use to sell semI kits of this or what ever you needed to build this kit but ever scince he passed away the kit was re tooled. The original molds were destroyed when Dwightt was getting Ill he in trusted a fellow name Steve Lillard,to carry on in makeing these kits by phone order only. Steve ruined all the molds and stiffed a lot of people who sent him money, he was a con artist . As to the any semI kits of this legend to my knowledge they dont make them. but the kit is available very expensive your looking at $500.00 on up I got mine for $125.00 the price was right back in that day.

The Revell New York Firefighter kit is out of production perhaps some day Revell might reissue the kit like everything else they produce so many and go to something else. the best suggestion I can give you is to check ebaythese New york fireboats appear from time to time, I bought this kit in 1966. Had it all those years, she was originally a static display peice got the urge to RC her I followed up on the urge to do this. Now I take out to the metro pond.
