You may recall James May asked about having someone build his Deanโ€™s kit of the HMS BRONNINGTON for his dad? I responded with questions about the kit and after consulting others with experience building them, itโ€™s not one I could do. It requires someone who knows how to use photo etched parts.

Another is James wanted to make an RC model, but this kit is only 18โ€ in length and has a 3 3/8โ€ beam which is very tight for a twin screw kit. Not for a novice, operator.

Sorry but better to check out a kit before buying and then afterwards seeing your dream is more difficult than first thought.

I Have 3 Deans Kits, I've built 2 of them. The kits contain a good assortment of white metal molded fittings, plastic molded fittings, formed hulls, and wooden parts. I found they use the same molds across different scales. IE the same RIB boat used on a 100 scale boat and a 72 scale boat. I found most of the plastic molds to be full of bubbles, very brittle and very sticky. The kits I had required much part replacement and manufacturing. The scale 1/1 scale drawings are very nice to have but have some inaccuracies in them. the kits have the usual water decals and stickers that look to be printed from a standard laser printer. In one of my kits the decal sheet was printed on what looked like card stock instead of the normal water decals or stickers and were unusable. I replaced the props on the bigger boat with brass but used the rest of the drive components supplied.

However once completed the kits make for very nice looking boats that sail great and look scale. I built the Dante and the Surveyor and then needed a break from Deans, lol. I have the Bulldog yet to be started.
