Doing the research can be a great challenge, but it is so delightful to do. You have made a great start and I look forward to following your build!😊😊

HMCS Woodstock from a kitbashed Revell Flower Class Corvette.

This project was started in 2015 but was delayed, firstly by my wife's death and then by COVID. Information on Woodstock has come primarily from the Archives in Ottawa and Kingston and although that is a 1000km trek from Port Stanley, it pales in comparison against the cost and time required to access British sources. This means that any attempt to create a highly accurate model of Woodstock at a specific time in history is doomed to failure. Since the model will go on display at the local Legion Branch 410 here in Ontario and where visitors may spend ten seconds looking at it, I have decided to model an approximate time period sometime after the North Africa campaign, late 1943. I am building a wood display box and have mounted it on the basement wall where the model is stored safely between construction efforts.

Anyone of us can go to Wikipedia and read this:

“ Woodstock was ordered as part of the Revised 1940–41 Flower class building program. This revised program radically changed the look of the Flower-class corvette. The ships of this program kept the water-tube boilers of the initial 1940–41 program, but now they were housed in separate compartments for safety. The forecastle was extended, which allowed more space for berths for the crew, leading to an expansion of the crew. The bow had increased flare for better control in heavy seas. The revised Flowers of the RCN received an additional two depth charge throwers fitted amidships and more depth charges. They also came with heavier secondary armament with 20-mm anti-aircraft guns carried on the extended bridge wings. All this led to an increase in displacement, draught and length.[9]
Woodstock was laid down by Collingwood Shipyards Ltd. at Collingwood 23 May 1941 and launched 10 December 1941. She was commissioned 1 May 1942.[10] During her career Woodstock had three significant refits.”

There are some notable differences between the Woodstock and early flower class corvette found in the Revell kit. The sharp flared bow is for me a big one.

    Have you seen:

Are you aware of the Flower Class Corvette Association group on Facebook? I glanced through it and you might find someone who has information to share in your project.

There was an email address for the fccasecretary in ghe “About” section.

On research ...

History is interesting because aside from the fact that it is written by the victors it is highly subjective. Whereas a textbook will be subjected to many reviewers and still get it wrong, the internet is full of stuff which has absolutely no verification whatsoever so relying on a single source, even if it is Wikipedia, will get you into trouble. In physics we have this drawing of being precise but wrong (I am 100% accurate that the cat is precisely dead/alive):

HMCS Woodstock Moves along to the Finish Line

She changed over the years because of three major wartime refits. She was laid down in May '41 at Collingwood, ON, launched in December '41, and commissioned in May '42 in Montreal, QC. A minor refit was in September '42 acquiring lots of 20mm Oerlikons for Anti Aircraft work in the Mediterranean for the North Africa campaign, Operation Torch.

Woodstock being assembled ...

Much of the kit was modified and a new bridge made out of 10 thou' sheet styrene. The engine house was shortened and several other structures modified. When I build, I build sub-sub assemblies which are combined into sub-assemblies which are then combined onto the hull.

From the model I removed almost 1-1/4inch of engine housing deck. This adds about 7 feet to the depth charge working area or aft deck in a Canadian Corvette. From the Collingwood blueprints:

Woodstock and her Gun Art

Most Canadian corvettes carried an artistic endeavour on their forward 4-inch gun shield. There is not a lot of documentation on this and the best image I found was the one below and then from that I recreated my own. Donald of course, swatting a U-Boat with his cap ...

HMCS Woodstock Crew From Etsy 3Djson

I thought I might let everyone know how these arrived. The 1/72 were in cages with struts and the 1/43 were supported by minimal struts.

Good grieve! Seems like a lot of wasted material. Did you then cut and file the excess material off ? After the material is removed are the figures nicely detailed?

The support material breaks off very easily, cleanup with a file is rather quick, and 3Djson prints with a high resolution machine. Below is the 1/43 crew also from 3Djson for my rebuilt HMT Pert :
