Trimaran USV

Initial output for a Trimaran USV. This is the product of the local boat makers here in my AO. Their craftsmanship is good. Still waiting for the side hulls. I'm contemplating on putting a 3hp motor inside. I will update the blog as soon as the parts gets available. 😁

    Hi analyst
We have a section All Things RC that shows basic RC set up.
For the boat you will need two servos and given the size I would go for large heavy duty type servos. One will control the rudder(s) the other the engine throttle.
As you are wanting endurance and you have a large model a 12v SLA with a UBEC to reduce the volts to 5/6v. Have a look at http://www.componentshop.co.uk/ for a selection of what is available.
Radio wise you may want to consider the Taranis long range receiver as this will give you the range you originally mentioned and certainly more than the standard X8 receivers. The aerial should be as high as possible and as far away from any interference as possible (sparks from the ignition). You cannot extend the aerial length but as you are into amateur radio this is something you will understand.
Video is another matter. I believe 5Ghz is the common allocation and I suspect this will be line of sight which may be a problem on a sea going vessel in rough seas or round an inlet.
The hull looks good and I look forward to seeing how you progress

    Hi Analyst,

Please follow DAVE M Recommendations to the letter!
You can't go wrong, look around the website he mentions there you will find most of the components you need!
Also look into our all things RC as a reference.

side hulls for the trimaran

the boat maker just finished the side hulls of the trimaran. looks good to me. still figuring out how to integrate these 2 with the main hull. will give update as soon as new development comes. i already have the prop, rudder, coupling, brass tube and stainless steel shaft.

the motor

this will be the motor to be used. Honda GP200 4HP 4 stroke gasoline motor. i opted to detach the gas tank so that i can lay it somewhere on the boat. i just modified the fuel line. i also remove the integrated kill switch(red latch) from the motor so that i can lay it somewhere on the boat. i will just find a way to attach a servo into it. maybe some modification on the switch will do the work. hopefully. i also removed the stock muffler, i need to fabricate a new muffler so that it blows on the stern(back) portion of the main hull.

Trimaran USV

some electronics to be used.
5400mah 30c lipoly battery
Rx - from my Taranis 9x
15kg.cm servos
battery checker
UBEC 5amps

i'm not sure if i have the right components. i asked guidance from a friend who have background in RC plane. any comments from the members who will view this thread is highly appreciated. honestly i'm limited to what is available here locally and haven't tried ordering from abroad. maybe that will be later. based on my personal research, i don't need an ESC for this project, just a UBEC. my friend suggested a 10amps UBEC but i can't find it here locally.
i'm also considering on purchasing a dragonlink UHF or EZUHF to switch from 2.4 to 433 to extend the range. any comment on this? any help/advice will be greatly appreciated. thanks guys
