sorting the sea commander at last, got to straighten out the cabin sides that bowed outwards badly(note the new internal subframe to pull it straight) and replace the forward cabin roof and windows that really were a mess. decided to go "old skool" with the deck planking... yep its pencil lines on the ply deck, just like the good old days! installed the propshaft and glued the motor mounting plate in place.
hope to have this on the water for the Southport funday in two weeks.
did you spot the "special G-clamp" in the first photo?

so... a week later and a huge amount of work, glass-cloth has been the main event this week and lots of it! new cabin roof's both fixed and removable have just stolen the hours away,
today the white primer was applied, so its all moving along apace, the base gloss white is next then lots of re-masking before the colour and lining go on.
if all goes to plan it will be "on the water" at the Southport meet on the 1st August

well the two weeks Intensive workshop activity has paid dividends, It got It's bottom wet at the Southport meet for the first time (ever) since It was built 40 years ago and left on top of a wardrobe to "warp properly"
not finished but very presentable.. It goes really well on Its speed 600 8.4v on 8 cells (9.6v) Its fast and rock steady! just need to reduce the rudder throw a little as It Is too sensitive to tx Input to be smooth
love this boat.. Its a delight to sail... must get round to varnishing the decks and throwing a few fittings on It.
great day at the southport meet and It was first outing for another Commander rescued from a wreck and finished In dark blue to a very high standard (get those spray rails sorted soon) so thats another two old Aerokits boats back on the water

Robert,
no problem, the Blue Commander was a "finished" boat, crew, maps, brass fittings, ropes, etc. and a real credit to its owner/builder! the best finished model on the day beyond doubt... months of painstaking work.
while the photos on here really do not do my very unfinished "plain jane" any justice (it was literally de-masked the night before, and has no laquer on anything)..
when it came time to get them wet.. my boats performance was just stunning!!! all I needed to do was get rid of the tx rudder trim from my previous boat! while its gorgeous blue cousin was having major problems on its first outing! and was doing a fair Impression of a U-boat! he will sort it! perfectionist's do!
I just need to add some laquer and a few fittings, though to be honest I cant bring myself to cut that doorway in my super-smooth glass clothed cabin sides
HI everyone,I am the owner of the blue commander and I would like to thank everyone for a fantastic day at Southport it was great to see all the Aerokit boats.
