having more money than sense....
I actually paid someone for this Sea Scout off ebay
finished stripping the layers of nicotine and paint from the boat, its going to get a serious coat of looking at...
new deck first,
the dark wood I stripped from a piece of an old drawer case from who knows where on the circular saw
and the narrow beech strips are ripped from a cheapo bread board!
goto make up for having bought the boat in the first place
hours of fun!
I have not got any info or plans or anything for this one, just the drawing in the Keilkraft catalogue

Hi,
I fitted a standard case size servo (futaba 148) in the aft well right next to the rudder post and fed a servo extension lead under the main cabin floor to the rx.
now, it was a really tight fit, to get the servo low enough in the hull I dremmelled out the floor in the aft rudder well area exposing the keel and the bottom hull skins, and dremmelled a slot in the upright of the well to push one of the servo mounting lugs into so it would fit, its in bits at the minute due to the hull skins delaminating from the transom so will post you a piccy when I have it back together.
good luck

If you still have them, can you send me some pics of the rudder, servo and prop shaft fittings that you did. I am curious to know how far in from the stern transom the rudder hole should be drilled and how close the prop should be in relation to it.
progress with the sea scout...
have finished the main deck planking and fitted the rubbing strips... one coat of sanding sealer has brought the colour of the Walnut and Beach decking to life.
built a new cabin roof frame and its now ready for the skin, will be deviating from standard and mounting a small mast and screen.
looks really small under the bow of my 49" Perkasa

been having fun rebuilding my Sea Scout, and really trying to keep it "old skool". I have decided to make "everything" and buy as litle as possible.
got a bit carried away with the making stuff for it though I am keeping it traditional wood and brass etc with regard for the age of the boat.
its not going to be standard as you can see..
well I like it

wow..
nothing like finished, less than a week since it was in primer, but the layers of masking tape are off... decided on a classic simple scheme.. done with car-plan acrylic aerosols, white, royal blue, bit of red to add some colour!
almost everything is flatted down to a matt finish waiting for a couple of coats of clear laquer to add a shine, no seating or interior or glazing yet as everything was just placed loosely together to see what it will look like.... (who else does that? ... all of you I bet) the sea scout really was the "plain Jane" of the Aerokits range, am doing my best to turn it into something nice.
this is a real-time blog so as I do a bit... I post it!
the last photo is just a reminder of the A£20 ebay disaster this renovation started with!

ok
its ready for the water... still needs a steering wheel, some instruments, and the lettering on the transom and bow...
kept it traditional, spent nowt, made everything! the portholes on the cabin doors are motorbike sump plug fibre washers painted silver, seats are scrap wood and brass wire and tube.
it is ready for its water trials, got all new running gear, new shaft, coupling, rudder, speed 600 mtronics controller, and a shiny new 2.4ghz radio!
trying it on 9.6v and a 39mm 2 blade, its just a starting point, will know more in a day or two if its right...
will post a final couple of pics when its on the water.. have really enjoyed renovating this little boat, must be 50 years old if its a day... so its had a much needed injection of new life.
it really makes me smile, just don't take it too seriously
proper old fashioned fun!

thanks for the kind words Mark.. just for you, here's a couple of pictures of her maiden voyage since the refit...
took her to my local lake on a chilly overcast day, performance was really good on a fully charged 9.6v 2500 pack when it was at peak charge, but it soon settled to a sedate scale like speed, she doesnt sit quite level in the water due to the battery position but it really isn't a problem, looks really nice and goes well enough... not bad for a stinky (honest) old ebay find for A£20
now to get my fireboat something like.. I think its quicker and easier to build from scratch than spend hours and hours putting right years of abuse
keep up the good work on the life boat.. I know your pain

I built a Sea Scout several years ago and also overcame the rudder servo matter by mounting the servo on its side.
With a bit of work I managed to conceal it beneath the floor of the aft cockpit.
I used some lead weight to ballast the boat after testing it in the bath and kept it slightly stern heavy which in turn helped it to raise the bow when on full power.
Motor was a 550 running on 7.2 volt nicad and performance was very pleasing..
I love the images of your Sea Scout and it shows what can be done with hard work and dedication.
Its also really great to see the smaller Aerokits models being restored as most restos seem to focus on the larger boats in the range.
Rudder servo...
Its a tight fit In the aft area, note the floor has been dremmelled out...

Hi
I am very Impressed with your restoration of our beloved Sea Scout, would you consider sending Images via PM so I can use your boat in our advertising as it is a great example Many thanks from Sandra Lesro Models
I have a Sea Scout sat in my garage built for me by Dad in the 70s then moved onto Cars and faster things, originally had a futaba brick combo (2 servo and a receiver in a block) and a homemade speed controller. All had gone but the motor was intact and ran when connected to my battery drill battery. Off to the local model shop , new 2.4g radio ,gell battery 6v , speed controller (things have come a long way since resistance wire in the 70s)plus new charger, £90 lighter and 40 years later its on the pond again driven by my 5 yr old son .Faster than I recall but running nose down on full speed . Need to trim it nose up. it needs a repaint and I have slight delaminating of the skins where they meet the transom. Yours looks fantastic all credit to you and ill post picks when mine looks half as good
I fitted a standard case size servo (futaba 148) in the aft well right next to the rudder post and fed a servo extension lead under the main cabin floor to the rx.
now, it was a really tight fit, to get the servo low enough in the hull I dremmelled out the floor in the aft rudder well area exposing the keel and the bottom hull skins, and dremmelled a slot in the upright of the well to push one of the servo mounting lugs into so it would fit, its in bits at the minute due to the hull skins delaminating from the transom so will post you a piccy when I have it back together.
good luck
