If the model is going to be a model that will be sailed on water, may i suggest that you consider coating the hull with fibre glass. I have used this method on my fleet of eleven R/C scratch built scale model warships over the past 47 years. The models remain intact and waterproof.

I have done the inside of the hull with fibreglass and resin and the outside has been filled, sanded and then 6coats of ezecote deluxe resin and finally 2 coats of primer ready for topcoat so I hope it is strong and waterproof

I did the same as you on my hull build as it was my second attenmpt but used low weight (34gsm) fibre cloth in between coats of ezekote.
