This is my Falmouth Gaff-Rigged Cutter that I built while on a little island in the Carribean back in '08/'09. It is a scratch built designed and built by myself. However it had one major problem - too much weather helm! So its been sitting in the garage gathering dust so it's time for a refit. That way I will have 5 to 6 boats to take to the pond...someday!! 🤗
While correcting the weather helm I will also do the following:
1. Upgrade wiring to include new switch and fuses. 2. New battery type and system. 3. Replace outdated rx with a new technology version. 4. Replace motor esc. 5. Modify sails as required to fit adjusted mast location.
This will give me something to do 😉 while glue and paint is curing on my US2M build that is ongoing 😋.....

Try googling 'Falmouth working boats', videos and pics. You will notice that their main boom ended more or less over the transom and they had guite long bowsprits. The Oyster boats were similar. There were also Falmouth Quay Punts which had a mizzen stepped on the transom (over to one side to avoid the tiller).
Ian,
So far I have just increased the bow sprit the same 4" distance that the mast moved forward. So the whole rig just moved forward. I am with you on doing too much too soon. Any changes to my current sail design will wait until after some sea trials.
My other upgrades are about done, just waiting to get a new switch I ordered.
Completed the majority of upgrades for this refit. All new wiring, fuses, switches, new RX, new battery and setup, etc.
Rigging just about ready for a sea trial. I will use the existing sail setup just moved forward on the boat. Once it has sailed again I will determine if any new sail designs are necessary.
Here in California it's still too soon for me to venture out to the pond 😂, so I will wait a few more weeks and see how it goes.
