RAF Crash tender

HI Folks
I am just starting to build a 34" RAF Crash tender .
Why ? or what maybe

This version is based on a Kingston Moulding Hull OK so you can see I have cheated already but I am not a boat builder , Mostly we fly model aircraft but the RAF Crash tender Has been a model I have wanted to own since I was about 15 but that was a long time ago and now with RC being relatively inexpensive I wanted to add a Boat to the fleet ,

First Impressions of the hull as I unpacked it this morning were it looks quite good but the Plan supplied with the hull is the poorest excuse for a build plan I have seen for a long time , it was supplied with a 3view with sections scale drawing of the original boat without templates , I have sent Robin an email but I cannot see anything happening , as I said before I am a complete novice when it comes to boat building .
what I had hoped for was a sheet of templates for the superstructure .

regards for now emma

Robins reply was "Can't help with any cutting patterns etc, I've never done anything like that for any of the hulls I've made, you have to work everything out from the plan, and copy the shapes from there. Most scratch builders have their own preferred way of doing things, and I'd be wasting my time telling them how. You should find useful info on my site's FAQ page and the various constructional articles."

    Thank you Robin

so what does a complete boat building novice do ?
OK , so I contact Kitshack and a very nice Guy called Chris responded with a " we can help " and has give me a sensible quote for the superstructure parts of their kit and hopefully they will be here soon Thank you Chris
Now I hope to have the best of both world a glass fibre Hull and precut ply parts .
The hull on closer inspection is quite good a slight curve in one side and there are "burn marks" ( slight discolouration of the gell coat where the release agent / wax is wearing thin " where the heat from the curing glass fibre has marked the surface but a good hull nether the less . The internal bulkheads will cure the curvature as it is only slight.

The bits have arrived

Well what can I say , The bits are here and I opened the box and was amazed at the quality of the parts obviously some of the window parts have a little "tag " on them to hold them on the surrounding ply but the overall quality is very good and well worth the money . I would recommend the kit to everyone that maybe interested in building one . Thank you Chris and Darrell for your time and help in coming to my rescue and producing me a half kit , This will make the build much easier with the Fiberglass hull and pre-cut deck parts.
Hopefully next week I will post the pics of hull and parts , The build has slowed down as I am building an AtomicZombie recumbent trike at well at the moment so both are spare time projects , I am amassing the parts at the moment so the build should be easy with all the parts at hand , next stage is to decide on single or twin motors . any suggestions with reasons please , I would like this model to be able to go above the scale speed of 5mph say 8-10 mph

Just looked at your profile and see you already use LiPos in a model. I recommend you use brushless and LiPos. Details of my Fireboat are in my Harbour, click on my avtar and scroll down to the last entry. 😀

    HI Emma

Glad the kit we sent to you lived up to your expectations. Look forward to seeing some pictures of your build. We are currently designing a website for our kits so would love it if we could have some photos during and after your build.

    Good luck with your build.

    Darrell/Chris

    HI guys

Lots going on around here still and winter came and went . I have just acquired a KK Raf Crash Tender that wants some TLC I will finish the KK one before I start the new "Kit " as I still have little time , This KK one has no fittings and I am looking for a set of fittings for it and an easy way to remove the very front cabin roof so I can replace the old windows , I would think this one is getting on for 40 years ld but the hull looks in good condition bar a few bits of car filler where the prop shafts has been altered over the years Hoping to fit the brushless motor that was going in the other one .

The engine mount has been made for the 35-30 motor and the new rudder and universal joint has arrived , I hope to fit the motor and rudder this week all being well , But I am also working on the new 20" wheel electric recumbent trike so my time is split between projects .
The transfers also arrived this week , I want to get the radio installed so I can try out the motor before starting the refurbishment of the boat to make sure that the motor is powerful enough to make it go well rather than to find out later that its not .

    regards emma
