(Racing Boat) blue whale
Originally a ready to run boat with a z drive , Converted with a hotter 17t RC car motor and esc with reverse .
The Hull filled with expanding foam and home made water cooling pipe works with 6mm od tubing . turbulent prop wash is still causing cooling problems , quick , but a bit boring (8/10)

HI Folks
Between other hobbies and household duties the repaint is now done and the stand made and painted as well .
Grey and white primers worked ok but I used tile red for the bottom and a satin black for the upper hull .
Apart from the decals , rear steps , mast , and life rings it is a bit bare .
The weather is foul at the moment and I hope to get down the lagoon in the next couple of months to re float and run the boat .
until then here is a boat out of water
thanks for the help and tips
regards emma

HI Dave
I am thinking of using brush paints for the hull Red and black , A friend lives in the marina and might be able to get some real antI foul red paint π
I think that is spirit based , I can find some black satin spirit based leaving only humbrol 64 for the grey if I can get some . The white roof from a rattle can worked ok .
I hope to finish it for easter 2015 is my " dream " but it has been in the water and does look the part . I have some of the finishing touches but this will be a working boat . Not a show boat defininately NOT a SLOW boat π
I have a searchlamp , mast , steps and a few other things including the decals to "look the part " I still have the fibre galss hull and upper wood kit for the other one that I have not started yet and going the way I am it might be an unfinished project ( unstarted even )
I am spend too much time on my other hobbies , we build full size recumbent tadpole trikes ( atomic zombie forum ) as well as fly model aircraft ( RCGroups )

HI Shaun
That is not going to happen π , I will repair the "festers" π with a little P38 and try and get some barrier coat , if it is still available . π―
Other than that its going to be spirit based household type paint for the red and black ,
The boat is too old to make a 100% repaint job and I suspect a lot of gremlins might be lurking under the paintwork that might bite back if disturbed .
Sometimes I think " let sleeping dogs lie " the speed I seem to be getting on with this it wont be done by next year π―

HI Folks
I have tried to use the auto paints the white for the roofs are ok but the black and red both react> π , either I need to get some barrier coat or use enamel to refinish the hull

HI Dave
many moons ago we played with using an analogue servo as a propulsion unit , but the motors were not powerful enough and increasing the motor size blew up the output transistor bridge of the servos - That was (c) 1977
it was easier with discrete components to uprate the output transistors and we did get a reasonable result .
I was thinking single brushed motor driving a single prop and rudder , doing away with the full depth of the rear well and using a baby servo for the rudder and 2s lipo , with a small lipo you can" feel" the boats performance dropping of as the battery goes flat
will hunt for the other posts , I don't like the idea of running contra rotating motors and no rudder , I have seen that on other small boats
will think on it whist playing with the larger projects that are already on the go ... π

there is one local will take a look , I can only assume ( make an ass u me ) that the paint will take an acrylic over the finish that is already on the boat , there is red under the grey so l hope it is an acrylic base paint already , this is the problem with a second hand boat that has seen many years of service before me , I was wondering if I can get a auto barrier paint before I go and " muck " it up , l need to fill the first cabin roof as I removed it to refit the windows . but I can use a finger of body filler for that .

HI Dave
Plastic box is fitted ( bolted down ) for the radio gear at the rear of the rear cabin , took me long enough to get this far and batteries wont fit anywhere else low down , So everything will have to stay where it is with the lead in the boot !.. π , I will make a compartment to stop it "floating about " on turns
it goes well enough , so next stage is the re-paint I can always fit the 3542 motor that is sitting here for Real Power that's a 15v 35a motor ( in a plane)
thanks guys for you help

Guesstimate on speed faster than I can run .
The 10 sub C's weigh about 20 ozs my lipos only 12ozs hence 8ozs difference , my batteries are in the front compartment where the tank was originally. not much weight with the motors and speed controller midships , and nothing heavy at the rear , without the ballast it would have made a good submarine on full power as the bow wave flooded the model . tried 20 ozs in the rear and it planed better but sat too low without power .
A couple of the local boat club were at the lagoon when I got there and they had a go after I put the 4 off 1/2" drives plug sockets I found in the cars toolbox in the back , Since then I have been given a divers belt weight and 1/2 of that weighs the same as the sockets I had used .
next stage is to secure it in the rear in a purpose made housing .
might try 2x 2s 1800 lipos next time just to see how the boat performs with the extra GO!.. π

Dont need practice π
It does look the part and only needs some lead and the repaint .
I have the Steps, mast , and floodlight ( From Stephen and they look rather good ) and a pair of lifebuoys from flea bay ( not so good )
I am not looking for a perfect model more a working boat that I am not going to worry to much about when the car moth and storage gremlins strike .

now its refit time .

Nice !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If mine goes like that I will be pleased , The bath test shows the motor has enough power , only have a standard esc at the moment I might use a spare channel to reverse the motor windings on a relay , Just finished fitting the windows and replacing the cabin roof , few more bits and its ready for a test down the lagoon ,

HI Paul
RAF Crash Tender took a back burner again due to 5 trikers going camping, I put it in the bath tonight with the watt meter connected , on 3s , it was running about 100 watts and the prop wash seems enough to pull it along at a sensible speed as the motor is rated at over 300 watts I might go 4s and try it as it was only pulling 8.9 amps on full power held stationary . weight is about 6 1/2 lbs about 3kg

next stage the lagoon before I do a refubishment on it just to make sure

Motor , universal joint and rudder are installed but I need to fit a rudder servo , Motor is running the right way and the water proof box for the gear is installed ...
Just a couple of sillies here
Should I use a standard servo on the rudder or will a micro servo be ok
I have a couple of STD servos and lots of 9gm ones
What do I do regarding the aerial on a 2.4ghz Rx as it is only a inch long on the end of a 2" feeder ?
will it be ok in the water proof box or .........

The 35-30 motor is almost fitted ( dry run ) and the new rudder installed
the motor lines up well with the propshaft so all is looking good , just ordered a servo mount as Servotape didn't appeal to me , waterproof box for the rc gear is mounted . All I need to get is a snake for the rudder linkage and then I will float it in the bath to check the watts before taking it down the lagoon , before it undergoes its refit and repaint . I have a couple of 3s 1800 lipos spare that I can use with a y lead and get 10 minutes with to check it all out .

The engine mount has been made for the 35-30 motor and the new rudder and universal joint has arrived , I hope to fit the motor and rudder this week all being well , But I am also working on the new 20" wheel electric recumbent trike so my time is split between projects .
The transfers also arrived this week , I want to get the radio installed so I can try out the motor before starting the refurbishment of the boat to make sure that the motor is powerful enough to make it go well rather than to find out later that its not .

Have wattmeter will travel , we have been flying toy aeroplanes for longer than I can remember and have played the lipo game for 6 or 7 years so no problems , even running lipos on electric recumbent trikes . ( 2 x 7s 1p 5ah = 52v )
LIPOs are dangerous unless treated with care , so we do ! π―
Only thing I really need to know is will it be powerful enough to look right on the water

HI guys
Lots going on around here still and winter came and went . I have just acquired a KK Raf Crash Tender that wants some TLC I will finish the KK one before I start the new "Kit " as I still have little time , This KK one has no fittings and I am looking for a set of fittings for it and an easy way to remove the very front cabin roof so I can replace the old windows , I would think this one is getting on for 40 years ld but the hull looks in good condition bar a few bits of car filler where the prop shafts has been altered over the years Hoping to fit the brushless motor that was going in the other one .

HI Chris
Slowly is the understatement at the moment , Ended up in hospital at the end of June and after a month of R&R , Started to build the recumbent trike ( Atomic Zombie Streetfox ) ended up building 3 of these and electrifying one of them with a 500watt brushless motor 48 volts of SLA 7 AH and the RAF crash tender is on hold till winter , Will be putting a brushless motor in it with 3s pack , was hoping to clone the mould and make 2 , hope to restart it when the nights draw in
regards all , emma
