Two of my sailboats 25” & 26” sail fine, the Dragen is 30” and are easily transported. Only the M12 is 45” which in the pickup truck, transportation is easy, though the car is not the best.

Gary uses the keel n bulb design but with our weedy conditions in many of the lakes or ponds those will get hung up. All my sailboats are designed with rudder attached the the keel. I am going to give it a try design a cutter with a hull best suited for our waters. Probably using less sail area than in yours, though it looks nice.

I've built Gary's cutter 'Flyer'. The plans were accurate and easy to follow with very few errors. I enjoyed the build and the finished model sails well and looks great on the lake.

Downsides: It is big, has to be assembled at the side of the lake as I can't transport it assembled, and it goes best with a strong breeze.

I know that Gary advises against scaling his designs down. 10% may be OK, but reducing it to half scale would introduce a lot of design issues relating to weight, sail area etc.

I like his plans very much and have been tempted to build in half size as you suggest, but I'm afraid my physical ability these days is absolutely nil and I cannot find the energy to finish a boat which has been all but finished for about nine or ten months. I'm sure they would turn out very well, all his schooners are great looking craft.
