Excellent work Wayne, I may in the future be asking you for help in buying a resin printer, hope you will oblige me.😊

It is.
A picture, memory, anecdote or something quite small gets you launched on a totally new endeavour.
As my thoughts on the Bluebird mature will be in touch.

How do everyone, it’s amazing you start off with a project & it leads you down lots of different avenues.
I started off with a set of plans that were of a very inaccurate early version of K7, I started building it in 1/12 out of balsa & as my research intensified it highlighted the errors in the plans, so I had to keep cutting it apart to correct the significant errors. It ended up with a brushless motor & prop, got liberally coated with Easycote sanded smooth & put on a shelf, where it remained, it never got wet!!
I then built one in 1/24 for the grandson.
Then I discovered the Bluebird project, the guys that found, raised & restored the real K7. I’ve spent lots of time on their website & their Twitter feed, the definitive info is all there. I’ve been up to their workshop in the northeast a couple of times, I’ve taken hundreds of pictures of the old girl & ive got to say she looks even more beautiful in the flesh!!!
I was allowed to strip the paint off the bump at the bottom of the tail, it’s actually a clamshell cover for a parachute system on the original Gnat aircraft it came from, shame it wasn’t operational on the 4th Jan 1967!!!
What a feeling removing that historic blue paint (RAL 5009 iirc) only to find day glow orange underneath…
I went to watch her perform on Loch Fad on that Isle of Bute, what an experience….
I got well into building a K7 in 1/4 scale armed with all the newfound detail. Alas more grandchildren arrived, No 4 due in 2 months, so I had to give up my attic modelling room, and with it had to go the big K7, that was a very sad day, perhaps I should have sold it but the market for a 6foot long unfinished model were rather limited with covid & all that malarkey.
I’ve since had my cellar tanked & built a new workshop down there, I’ve 2 resin printers & 7 fdm printers. So I can print anything from a microscopic gearstick to a 500mm cube, I’ve printed lots of WW2 stuff, tanks, trucks etc in 1/16 & 1/6 scale, now I’m having a play with science fiction stuff, I’m currently printing the Hydra Submarine from captain America.
If anyone needs any info, please let me know!
Sorry for the war & peace, perhaps I should have put a long post warning at the top lol
Cheers
Wayne

Thanks Doug, very helpful, as usual.
I had seen the article and it perked my interest.
Am going to investigate further, think the model has some potential. No urgency as my Visby class needs much further work to finish anyway.
Need to find some scale drawings and can then design something close to scale. Am also cogitating on the various construction techniques as wondering if could make up a upper hull buck, then shape thin styrene around it.
Food for thought!
Thanks again, long past your bedtime in Munich.

No sweat Rowen, glad to help.
I have a digital subscription to MB mag so is easy to pdf relevant articles, and if you're in contact with Ashley then ...😉
Like I said, check out Midlife's Blog on K7, I think he was 3D printing his, but he must have some plans and drawings to do that.

You're right, 2AM here now soooo, last slurp of Portugieser-Dornfelder Rose and up (or down in my case) the wooden stairs to Bedfordshire.
G'night all 😴😴😴
Doug 😎
PS Trust you all had Happy Easters - like these hip Easter wabbits!😁
Young at heart 😉 Slightly older in other places.😊 Cheers Doug

Look no further Rowen 😉
Also, look for Wayne's (Midlife) Blog on the K7 here on our site - around 3 years ago I think.
Good luck my friend🤞

Thanks Chris.
Am in touch with Ashley and the article is in the last months MB magazine. Am trying to find a copy.
As I want to build to scale, think will also buy the plans so by combining the best of both sources think can make up a viable project.

Actually Rowen, I think Ashley did an article in the magazine, I'll see if I can find it. And I'm sure Ashley would provide any info. that you'd want.

He didn't do an exact scale replica as he doesn't do them, but some of the info. will be useful, especially as regards the DF.

Ashley on the Model Boats Magazine forum has built one. Look in All things floating/Today's boating. Trying to find which page as there are many.

Sarik list the plans for the K7 which could be adapted for DF.

Thinking of building a scale, working model of the above hydroplane using a Electric ducted fan.
This would be my first foray into this type of model. Has anybody else tried it and what would be your recommendations?
Am also looking for plans if anybody knows a source.
Thanks
