Built a similar vessel. my RAF RTTL 2762E.
The blog is in the library. Also built a triple screw HMS BRAVE BORDERER.
That blog is also in the library and is a litany of trials and tribulations.
They might give some background and guidance.

1/35 scale in wood may cause some challenges with the weight, but old school setup with one 385/400 type with a light weight 2S LiPo and a cheap 10-20Amp ESP striped down may be the solution, personally I would opt. for a Brushless setup with 2S Lipo, any ways it require that you have a charger that can handle LiPo´s. BrushLess can also be slow but the weight of them are minimal compeer to a brushed alternative.

It would be better if you gave the size of the boat eg (length)
Is it single or twin prop?
who's plan are you using?
Are you going for brushed or brushless motor
Then someone may be able to help
have a look at my last MTB it gives the sort of information you need
