Tug Perseverance (ex-Irama)

Here is a short video of the tugboat "Perseverance" by Howard H., one of the members of the Suncoast Scale Model Boat Club (Florida, U.S.A.).

I asked Howard to send me info on the tug, so here it is in his words:

"In 1933 a tug boat named Imara was built in England for the Tanganyika Railway Co for trade work in Africa. A year later it was bought by the Royal Navy and renamed Perseverance and remained in service until the late 1950's.

Caldercraft in England created a model kit of Imara at a 1/32 scale, length: 43.5",
Beam: 11.5" in the 90's. The kit hull, main and rear deck house and funnel are molded in GRP. There are over 1,400 parts and many of them are lead castings!
The kit is still sold by various model companies including Harbor Models.

Why did I build it? It was free, and I have interest in tug boats! Another old timer had the kit and he had installed the motors and shafts, but then it was abandon for whatever reason. It has taken me about two years with a lot of research to complete the model and there are still some items that can be added. During the build, I decided to make the changes like enclosing the wheel house and adding a second mast so she became Perseverance.

With the battery and ballast, the model weighs about 50 lbs. So, I fabricated a trailer that allows me to load the boat with battery and ballast and then pull her to the dock for launching."

This heavyweight looks great and cuts the water really well. Hope you enjoy the video!
