RTTL 2755 update

Hi Tony yes I did use the Vic smeed drawings but only for the general layout of fittings. I purchased a set of Brave Borderer plans from Map in 1974 so I used these to build my Brave a couple of years ago.at the time I was just testing out my hull building skills, and used ply and sheet balsa. This turned out well but in the end used a pre made glass fibre hull so the balsa one was shelved. I didn’t feel it was strong enough and at the time didn’t fancy using resin + matting to strengthen. When I made my Orca I did use this method though, see blog.
So you see I had a hull ready made, once I had the RTTL plans I compared one against the other and apart from the length we’re just about the same. So I cut 4inches off the stern and added a new transom, job done hull made, so in the end I didn’t use the plans for the hull.but worked out well in the end.
Thanks for your interest

RTTL 2755 update

You are making a lovely job of this RTTL and I particularly like the attention to detail and the know-how advice you give on making the 'fiddly bits'. I've yet to start my RTTL, house repairs are taking precedence! My plan is Vic Smeed's 34" enlarged to 48". Is that the plan you used?

Good job! Very nice electronics tower.
I think figuring out all the fiddly bits we can come up with is part of the fun challenge.
It also helps to prevent brain rot!

See scratch building isn’t all that bad! Good work!! Keep it up, and keep your eye out for other ordinary things you can use for your boats.

RTTL 2755 update

Hello fellow modellers
I’ve been busy today making the fiddly small components that I think set a project off. Each small part is a micro project in itself and I find it a challenge scratch building.
This afternoon I set about making the winch for the bow.I found a base to work as the motor body and a small cable clip for the gearbox.the difficult parts was going to be the 2 capstons each side, I solved the problem by sawing the heads off 4 countersunk screws bonding them to a shaft as can be seen in the 1st photo, adding some levers finished the job, next I added some folded flags to the flag rack purchased from “Battlecraft”. Then I made up a watertight hatch cover from a lid off a hand sanitiser bottle. Tomorrow not even started on yet.
