Thanks Colin. (I had a space between "Eddie" and "T".)

Many talk for the difficulties of building a hull. The reasoning I recommended a Springer from Zippkits (I have no connection to them) is the easy of building such a hull. One should appreciate what the hull is composed and built of in order understand my recommendation. The hull consists of two flat side plates (each has two layers), one bow plate and one stern plate (both also double thick) and two hull bottom plates. As for the frames, there are six, plus one motor support, and one deck.

Yes, everyone has different tastes. However, "EddieT" was looking for recommendations.

This Springer "tugster" from Zippkits has outstanding qualities:
    โ–บInexpensive
    โ–บSolid construction
โ–บEasy/fast build (simple, laser cut wood panels)
    โ–บMinimal tools
โ–บFun performance and sharp turns (runs great)
    โ–บEasy to modify and customize

Other mentioned a prefab hull (usually ABS or fiberglass). They bring on other issues such as cementing wood to the built hull, and also add to the expense.

Of all my model boats that I have, I ALWAYS bring at least one Springer with me to meets! In your search engine type "Springer Model Boat" and see the vast results from around the world.

View the Instruction Manual (checkout the list of tools and supplies on page 3):

Yes, it is confusing as it's on the the New Year Felicitations thread where he's expressed an interest in building a boat.

So, what happened to "Eddie T"? (The original post was removed and there is currently no member with that user name.)

The most difficult part of a build is usually the hull but it does depend on the type of hull and it's construction. Plank on frame is obviously quite complicated but a simple hard chine hull is pretty straightforward and is more likely to be found in a fairly simple kit.

But as Colin has pointed out we need to know what type of boat the OP is interested in before we can offer more advice on that aspect.

Tools have also been mentioned. For a simple kit a collection of basic cutting, sawing and sanding tools are required but if thoughts then turn to building more models, more complicated and maybe scratch building then more expensive power tools such as a scroll saw and drills etc. Can be considered.

For my part I like building hulls. I built one and as I wanted to plank the deck and was hesitant about doing it I started another which is how I came to build five Fairey hulls before completing any one build! Three of the decks have been planked though now and the others painted or varnished.

All are hard chine though I have two planked hulls (Faireys) in the pipeline which I'm looking forward to starting.
