Thanks Colin. (I had a space between "Eddie" and "T".)
Many talk for the difficulties of building a hull. The reasoning I recommended a Springer from Zippkits (I have no connection to them) is the easy of building such a hull. One should appreciate what the hull is composed and built of in order understand my recommendation. The hull consists of two flat side plates (each has two layers), one bow plate and one stern plate (both also double thick) and two hull bottom plates. As for the frames, there are six, plus one motor support, and one deck.
Yes, everyone has different tastes. However, "EddieT" was looking for recommendations.
This Springer "tugster" from Zippkits has outstanding qualities:
โบInexpensive
โบSolid construction
โบEasy/fast build (simple, laser cut wood panels)
โบMinimal tools
โบFun performance and sharp turns (runs great)
โบEasy to modify and customize
Other mentioned a prefab hull (usually ABS or fiberglass). They bring on other issues such as cementing wood to the built hull, and also add to the expense.
Of all my model boats that I have, I ALWAYS bring at least one Springer with me to meets! In your search engine type "Springer Model Boat" and see the vast results from around the world.
