I was glad to hear you were able to find something to purchase that suited your needs. It was great that other modelers were willing to help out. I am also curious to see what you needed and purchased. Such problems make model ship building interesting and challenging. In the past faced with problems I did the most logical thing, "I faked it". I carved something and covered with canvas until I came up with something better.

Recently I needed 1/4" wide, half round rubber strip for a gunwale rail. I searched extensively for a long time. I didn't know what to call it. I didn't want a 50 foot roll. The answer was some stuff used for automotive molding.

Here's a picture. This stuff may like look right on a tugboat also.
The sure way to succeed is, just try one more time

Hi PhilH, it's spelled Mantua.

It is the Latin name of the city that in Italian we call Mantova, in English Mantua.
Splendid city in Lombardy where the company that produces these lifeboats is based, as well as many ship kits.

I was about to buy some lifeboats from them too because the quality/price ratio is fantastic.
But then I preferred to do them myself, or at least I try.
When I finish them, if they turn out well, as I say, I will be able to give the projects away to anyone who needs them.

Just saw a nice Model Shipways lifeboat that was made of die-cut plywood hanging in a forgotten corner of a very small local hobby shop. The owner is a wonderful man who orders odd bits and pieces for me, but more importantly he keeps his balsa and basswood displays fully stocked at all times!

"H" ! Glad you like the Grammys! I spent 38 years in Hollywood feature films and when I retired I ran from the biz like I would run from a burning building! 🤣🤣🤣. But, I always enjoyed working with musicians and film composers when ever I got the chance. Had a few drinks with Miley's dad many years ago. Mark Mothersbaugh of DEVO is big in movie and TV composing nowadays. Big Talent. 😊

Hi PhilpH.

See if you find something that's right for you on the Amati manufacturer's website or on that of Mantua.
The measurements are there, you have to see if you like the models and if the costs are acceptable.
As a search entry enter the word: "scialuppa".
Or directly follow the links attached at the end of the message.

If you have access to a 3D printer that's the way to go, there are loads of files about. I see you are UK based, I can make you one for no cost in resin or plastic (pla). Alternatively Quaycraft make a whole series of ship's boats in a varuety of scales. Here is a link to Cornwall Model Boats who carry a good variety of ships boats by Quaycraft...
