What tug is this?

Fate is strange, I had posted on Facebook that I was looking for drawings of T S McEwan, yesterday I got an answer and today received the drawings.

AlanN on this forum let me know he had drawings as well, thanks Alan but I now have them.

hi there, I dont know if this is of any help to yourself however, there is a plan available of the steam tug F C Sturrock Plan is numbered MM1480 - from sarik hobbies. There was a build of this particular tug which was printed in Model Boats Magazine - I am unsure of what year it was - but we can try and find that out for you.

I do have this particular plan myself - and - it is on my 'to do list'

I have just found this on the Model Boats website and this does give the issues etc if you are interested. I do know that these magazines become available on Ebay and also in Magazine Exchange.

"Part 1 was the June 1997 issue of MB and then parts 2, 3, 4 and 5 were in July, Aug, Sept and Oct 1997. They were MB issues 558 to 562 inclusive".

What tug is this?

Wolfe, quite correct?
Had a nickname of Smokey Sue.

I have been on board when before it was scuttled off Robben Island.

There was a movement that wanted to preserve it but the redevelopment of the waterfront in Cape Town was driven by big money and nothing like that could get in the way.

The picture shows the screw steamer T.S. McEwen, a tugboat built in 1925 by Bow, McLachlan & Co. Ltd. for the South African government.
The T.S. McEwen was considered the world's most powerful tugboat when it was delivered.
She was used for towing and salvage operations at sea.
A characteristic feature of these steam harbour tugs was the long aft deck, which was useful for towing operations.
The T.S. McEwen was taken out of service in 1971 and later scuttled off the coast of South Africa.

What tug is this?

This is a tug I have always wanted to build a model of but sadly I doubt that I ever will as getting drawings is nigh on impossible.

Can anyone identify the tug, there is a clue in the background of the one picture.
