My introduction to reading the U-boat Captain stories was a book called The Golden Horseshoe. About Otto Kretschmer, excellent book well worth a read. Although he was captured early in the war and sent to Canada, he survived and was later a Naval Officer in NATO.

1. U-47 Type VIIB. Natch! Kapitänleutnant Günther Prien successfully penetrated the defences of Scapa Flow RN Home Fleet base) and sank the obsolete battleship HMS Royal Oak. Earning Prien the nickname Der Stier von Scapa Flow ("The Bull of Scapa Flow"); the emblem of a snorting bull was painted on the conning tower of U-47 and the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves (Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes mit Eichenlaub), the highest award in the military and paramilitary forces of Nazi Germany during World War II.
U-47 disappeared in March 1941. Her fate remains unknown.

2. U-201. Type VIIC under the command of Kapitänleutnant Adalbert Schnee.
Apart from the Aguila incident; on it's sixth patrol, still commanded by Kapitänleutnant 'Snow' 😉 U201 also 'accidentally' damaged a neutral ship - the Argentinian freighter Victoria.
On her ninth patrol, under the command of Oberleutnant zur See Günther Rosenberg, she was sunk off Newfoundland by HMS Viscount.

😎
Young at heart 😉 Slightly older in other places.😊 Cheers Doug

U47 successfully raided Scapa Flow under the command of Gunther Prien, one of the most successful UBoat captains of WWII.

U201 sank the Aguila, a passenger ship inciting heavy losses. The captain was A Schnee (Snow) hence the snowman on the conning tower.

Both sunk significant amounts of shipping but unfortunately I can’t name the crew.🤣

Pat excuse my strange sense of humour

Ed

May I respectfully point out it was you that asked questions about U Boats - both the boats in question are quite famous and had Commanding Officers that was well know in U Boat History.
