Rigging wanted

Rather than so many names when you consider how long ships have been sailed and how many languages ( Norse old English Norman French plus words we Brits have borrowed ( filed off the serial numbers and claimed as our own)) its a wonder there are so few !!!!

Rigging wanted

Many thanks for your help folks,

Chicks, cletes, Clovis, cotter pins, sewage studs, turnbuckle, bottle screws etc who'd have thought that there were so many parts to rigging .... I've still to identify the part that fixes the boom to the main mast .... someone suggested to just use two eyepins .... Need to work out sizes next before purchase ...

Thanks again folks ... Shows the value of this forum

Rigging wanted

Hi Tall Paul
If you are intending to sail your model I suggest you visit http://www.pjsails.co.uk/ and download his catalogue. if you scroll to the end you will find turnbuckle and swivels and rigging cord. Mainly designed for the model yacht fraternity so may be a bit heavy for your purpose.
However you can then visit other model suppliers, as already suggested, and look for the correct parts.
If you do choose shirring elastic you will need to replace every couple of years. I have a large 4' Clyde Puffer and use shirring elastic for the standing rigging as it allows me to drop the mast for storage. The running rigging for the boom, hoist etc is standard rigging cord with home made fittings, but you can get these from Cornwall Model Boats and others
Good luck

Rigging wanted

Hi Tall Paul

Maybe this will help,
The tightening adjust I believe are called Turnbuckles which I've found some at this website.

http://www.harbormodels.com/turnbuckles.html

Unfortunately this website is in the U.S. so it'll take some time before you receive them.
Here are some other Websites that might help you as well,

http://www.model-dockyard.com/acatalog/Billing_Mast_Fittings.html
http://www.modelboatbits.com/FITTINGS/RIGGING-CORD/

I hope this helps! Also ask around I'm sure one of the guys on this website has built a Clyde Puffer, look in the Build Blog as well.

Rather than shirring elastic consider

http://www.spellboundbead.co.uk/c/290/Elastic-Threads

There are other suppliers that link, is just so you know what I mean its a plastic material so less affected by water.

Tightening adjusters ??? Bottle screws???

http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/ship_fittings.html

Have a look there a whole load of various fittings with pictures so you can see what it is.

Hope someone can help me source some rigging bits for my Clyde Puffer.
I need at least two rig to mast, maybe 5 tightening adjusts, mast and boom swivel connector ...Going to use some kind of elasticated cord ... Shirring elastic ...

Need nautical names for these parts to help searches ... Link to Picture with part names would help
