Matchbox 1/72.HMS Bluebell. Out of Reserve for 2020

Hi Bill,
I agree a build log would be good.

Martin555.
If it looks right it probably is.

Would love to see this Carrier as a build log. Very interesting.👍
I cannot promise to finish one project before starting another. I know, I tried.

"I have the model (work in progress). My plans show the shield / bracket for the running light in two configurations. Your model's configuration is that for HMCS SNOWBERRY or USS SAUCY. HMS BLUEBELL (yours) shows running light brackets 90 deg from your build."
I agree Royal (er Your Highness😁)
I too have kits for the Flower class 1/72.
One original 1st issue Revell version bought ca 30 years ago.
And one Revell Technik version bought recently.
Not really worth the extra cost for a small motor for the radar, a handful of LEDs and a battery box and switch🤔
The old kit makes HMCS SNOWBERRY or USS SAUCY.
Pic on the box shows the nav lights at 90° as you say Royal, obviously wrong as the pic of the real SNOWBERRY shows.
The newer kit makes HMCS SNOWBERRY or CAMPANULA.
Curiously the box art shows the nav lamps upside down, i.e. open to the top.
Also wrong, as pics of the original ship show.

Attached pic of the original Matchbox paint scheme for BLUEBELL show the lamps fitted as you have them Bill👍 Even if the box artwork is different!
Also attached is a pic of the real BLUEBELL underway on the Tyne.
Looking at that 'ya pays yer spondulix and takes yer choice'. A tricky perspective 🤔
All good fun eh chaps? 😉
Happy pondering.
Cheers, Doug 😎

Thanks Bill👍
Look forward to further info - but maybe in a separate thread or Blog.
Up to you - it's your thread anyway😁
The mechanism looks vaguely familiar to me.
Servo with a long lever pushing the brass rod up?
Transverse rods running in guide grooves on the side walls.
Ingenious 👍
Have you by chance already posted some info on your Victorious build here some time ago?
Cheers, Doug 😎

Hi Bill,
If the port nav lamp is A over T then so must the stbd lamp be!
Actually both look dead right to me, see attached pic of HMCS Snowberry.
Shows both lamps attached as you have them.
Presumably so mounted to minimise the chances of being seen at night from an enemy spotter/recon plane!?
Cheers, Doug 😎
BTW On Pinterest I've seen several models with the lamp brackets upside down and back to front; i.e. green to port, red to stbd. Presumably the builders thought that the instructions were wrong and they should be fitted as normal.
Why they in the process also reversed the colours is beyond me!

Coming on well Bill. Lots of gizmos I see👍
Ships boats look great, models in themselves
How long have you been at it?😁 (Ooh er!😮)
I take it the box up front is for the Fwd aircraft lift.
Be interested in your lift mechanism cos I'm planning two Colossus class carriers.
One 'as built' as HMS Vengeance and one as she was rebuilt, angled flight deck etc, for the Brazilian Navy as NAeL Minas Gerais.
I worked on her refit in Rio in the nineties. Good fun😊
How about a Build Blog for Victorious?
Cheers, Doug 😎

Hello Royal10.
Thank you.
Your spot on re the Running lights.
Re do they work...No, not at the moment, but spookily enough if you check out the below picture looking from left to right you will see a set I am in the process of making up for my 1/48 Corvette. To their right are the grain of wheat bulbs for the 1/72 Corvette that I am going to make up.
Next to them is the smoke generator I hope to fit.
Happy days on the Pond

Running lights are just forward on the conning bridge. Port (Red) on left side and Stbd (Green) on right, facing forward.

I have the model (work in progress). My plans show the shield / bracket for the running light in two configurations. Your model's configuration is that for HMCS SNOWBERRY or USS SAUCY. HMS BLUEBELL (yours) shows running light brackets 90 deg from your build.

All in All lovely looking model.

Just one question, is it fitted so that the running lights actually light up.⚡👍

Where are the running lights.😁
Looks a really nice model. Highly detailed for its age.
I also like the weathering.😊

Matchbox 1/72.HMS Bluebell. Out of Reserve for 2020

Having been laid up for a very long time I have decided to bring out of reserve HMS Bluebell for the spring 2020 amongst other projects to finish.
Originally built with my then very young boys in 1979 from the original Matchbox kit she was fitted with an old Taycol Target motor and no R/C (couldn’t afford it then)
Over the years she has given valiant service and a lot of the weathering is genuine muck and grime from the ponds.
Just fitted a new motor as the Taycol was on its last legs but in itself will now become a refurbishment project and a Viper Speed controller.
I may try and squeeze in a smoke generator at some point.
The front turret rotates as well.
Like me the radio control is getting on in years but still works a dream with the original rechargeable batteries which still hold their charge.
We still love this boat and hopefully she will sail on for years to come.
Happy Days 👍
Ps, sorry the Port running light is on upside down.
