Thanks for all steers to Ezikote. Will be trying it before painting.
Sounds better than grain filler for protective purposes.

Like I said Rob 'It ain't cheap' but it's damn good😊
On my Sea Scout and PTB refurbs I worked down (or up?πŸ™„) to 3000 grit W&D Tamiya sponges.
With a drop of liquid soap with the last two applications. Gave a finish like plate glassπŸ˜ŠπŸ˜€

    Hi All.
I'm a recent convert to Eze-Kote for sealing the grain.
Previously I've used sanding sealer but the grain is always still evident and although the epoxy finishing resin works far better it still takes an age to get the perfect finish whereas this stuff sets in 30 minutes and can be flatted and re-coated multiple times to build up a smooth finish in far less time.
I flat off the last coat with 1200 grit wet/dry paper used wet to polish it to a mirror finish ready for the paint process.
Shame it's so expensive though ☹️

Actually it's called Eze-Kote Swanee, from Deluxe Materials πŸ˜‰
It's not the cheapest resin but it's quick and effective😊
On untreated wood I sometimes dilute it with about 15-20% water so it soaks in a bit.
It raises the knap which you can then easily sand off.
Then I apply 2 coats of neat resin to seal and strengthen.
Helps protect from knocks and bangsπŸ’₯πŸ’₯

I will have to remember "execute" when I get to the finishing stage of my RTTL. I like the sound of "no pong". A useful tip if you get stuck SS is make your own, just get clear model aircraft dope and mix it with talcum powder. It does the job a treat.😊
