I heartily concur with Shipyard Baz, although it was many years ago that I read 'The Golden Army' it still sticks in my mind as a really good read, as is anything by Leslie Thomas.👍

Incidentally, if you have read Ken Smalls magnificent book then this book "The Magic Army" by Leslie Thomas is well worth a read. The Magic Army is vintage Leslie Thomas. Charming, funny and imbued with warmth, he writes about the events leading up to that fateful day with his trademark compassion. A must for all fans of Leslie Thomas.

Thank you for the links.History does have a way of putting new light on what if something else had happened that night and more LST had been hit.

The carnage this raid caused must make it one of the most successful Schnell boat raids for the Germans, and one of the most disastrous exercises for the British.

I met Ken Small by his Sherman Memorial and after signing my book we had a good natter. I could tell instantly what a lovely natured man he was, and we talked for quite a while. It beggars belief the cock-ups in his book. The Schnell boat commander was eventually traced (not sure when now) and shocked at the carnage and loss of life.

To those interested in this S-Boot raid I have just watched a documentary By Plymouth university via a Zoom lecture. Apart from a couple of shots of them at sea and the narrator is on theS-130 there seems to be new evidence of the event.Very interesting.Within the next week it will be available on their website.
If anyone is interested I will post details as and when
