Hi Rick,
I have had a look at that article but unable to gain much information as it says 'club members only.

May i suggest that you try and contact Mancave to see if he could help.

Hi Martin the idea came from Wicksteed Park MBC hints and tips from the man cave.Smoke generator. A member posted his building of the generator with items needed with pictures.
I liked the concept and ordered the parts need.I have started to build the unit and wanted to figure out plus and minus of the fan and mister before hand for the wiring to power. The ultrasonic mister has arrived but there is no indication of plus or minus on the unit to help me with wiring it up.
Hope this helps a bit Martin.

The project will hopefully be a smoking unit when finished. The problem I'm having is figuring out the and - of the misting unit and fan.I have worked out how to wire them up for power but neither unit is marked for or- is there a way to find out or will it matter when wiring to power.
Any help please.

Rick - suggest trawl through the HOBBYWING site. They list scads of batteries and should help narrow down your choice

I've looked at sites for 11.1 v batteries and am confused on what type and maker to use.
The application will be to power a 12v. 25mm fan and a 24v ultrasonic mist generator (threw a 12v to 24v converter).
The battery needs to be powerful yet small enough to fit into the space (2"Wx4"L) needed but I don't want to put out big bucks on the battery.
Any help appreciated.

Thank you all for the info.Knowing I can work with 2-6 v or 1-11.1 v makes life a lot easier.

Yes,the 11 volt battery will work. Not sure how effective it would be over a long period. Fans are pretty tolerant to lower voltage. Or you could connect two 6volt batteries in series to give 12 volts

Happy New Year everyone,
You could also use a step up transformer/voltage converter/step up converter (various names). These are the devices that convert 6v to 24 volts so that you can use those misting machines as smoke generators. They only cost a few pounds/dollars. Some of them have built in volt meters others you need a voltmeter. They are adjusted by a small potentiometer that you turn with a screwdriver. If you use one, just make sure that you buy one that will give enough current to match the fan. Have a look at this website to give you some idea of what I'm talking about.

I use power boosters and reducers all the time to generate different voltages from one battery. Saves having lots of batteries of different voltages.
Good luck Tim

Hi Rick
2 6 volt SLA batteries connected in series should give you no problems. Just remember to charge them individually.
I have the same set up on my Tarpon

You could put the two 6v batteries in series (positive of one to the negative of the other) that would give you 12v.

Alternatively yes, the 11.1v battery will also work. I’d think a 12v fan would likely work down to around 8v.

I have project (fan) that I will need a 12 v power source but have a space problem to be able to use a sealed lead acid battery.
Can I use 2 6v batteries and y connect together will that give 12 v.
Will a 11.1 v battery be able to power the fan.
Any help please.
