    Hi John

I have quite an old Portgarth and can tell you it definitely does not need a bowthruster.

I am not sure what the motors are, I think they came with the original kit. I have two MTronics speed controllers which are run through a home made mixer which gives me single stick control of speed and direction. You could of course use both sticks to give you independent control if you do not want to fit a mixer.
This is powered by a 12v 7ah sealed lead acid which gives plenty of power and some ballast!!

She will spin in her own length and will tow our club rescue dinghy ( with crew) with ease.

    Regards Jack

    Hi John.
Great update and clarifies a few things ๐Ÿ‘.
Good to see you have already had some good info.
Such a wealth of โ€œBoating Brainsโ€ on this site.
What would be good if you can start a Build blog in that section.
I for one will follow you. If you start a blog then you will find that individual members especially the tug experts will follow it and give the advice as and when you ask for it.
Lots of pictures and write ups will make an interesting project.
Keep the wiring simple but practical.
Do dry runs first and expect mishaps.
If you need to draw a circuit take photos and post it so we can help if needed.
    Happy sailing ahead.
    Regards Bill.

๐Ÿ˜ŠSorry about my Early text not being clear enough
    Lets begin again

1: Yes it is the MMM Model of the Portgarth
The Dimensions are Scale 1:32nd OAL 37 1/2"(950mm)
    Beam 12 1/4" (310mm)

2: The 2 Steerable Kort Nozzles are 70mmThrustmaster

3: The 2 Propellers are 4 Bladed Kort propellers 65mm each with m5 Thread

4: The 2 motors are Thrust Master T12 6-12 volt DC 12 pole
Hi-Torque low rev. I don't know what size batteries to use

5: Yes I will be putting in Lighting
i.e. Navigation Lights and Towing lights and maybe accommodation lights
On the Question of putting in a bow thruster and what size I don't think I bright enough to do that what with electrical side of it and wiring it up
I haven't made my mind up on weather to just cruise around with it or to join in tug pulling competitions I will have to look into that sorry this post is long I hope this clarifies things Best Regards John๐Ÿ˜€

    Hi Carp,
Is your model the Mobile Marine Models kit?
    https://www.mobilemarinemodels.com/portgarth-52-c.asp
If so, at 37.5 x 12.25" it should be able to carry a decent sized SLA battery for a long running time. Voltage and ESC will depend on which propulsion (Kort nozzle) option you have selected.
Looks like a very comprehensive kit.
Wot it flippin' well orta be for well over 500 Quid + + + for fittings & accessories etc๐Ÿ˜ฎ
I note that it uses steerable Kort nozzles.๐Ÿ‘
Will you be fitting the standard '60' version or the '70' version with extra pulling power?
12 or 24Volt motors? Which version and which voltage will affect the choice of both battery and ESC (speed controller).
    Bon chance mon ami ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿคž
    Cheers, Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž

She must be a very 'young' ship cos she's currently 'on the Poti' ๐Ÿ˜ฎ in Georgia (under whose flag she now sails) or somewhere in the Black Sea!! ๐Ÿ™ˆ
(BTW: bin there, on the Ukrainian (Odessa & Crimea) and the Turkish side, northern end of the Bosphorus. An' it ain't Black - it's a light blue-grey ๐Ÿ˜)

...also, are you happy to cruise around your local waters at a nice scale speed - or do you have any plans to get involved in any tug pulling competitions?

The latter would normally need rather more power.....๐Ÿคฃ

    Hello Carpcruncher.
    This looks an interesting project.
Is it as per the picture below or something totally different?
If itโ€™s as per the picture thatโ€™s quite a first project.
All the questions Martin asks are pertinent ,so be good to hear what your thoughts are.
We are all here to help you in any way.
    Look forward to more info.
    Regards Bill.

    Hi Carpcruncher,

How many propellers do you plan on using ?
Do you plan on having a Bow thruster fitted ?
Are you going to have lighting?
    Dimensions of boat.
    Just a few questions.
The more information you can supply us with the better we could advise you.

    Martin555.
