Sorry Guys I have led you all up the garden path.
I wrongly thought removing Privet messages would save a lot of server space.

Makes sense, there's only one record for a private message. Deleting it would delete it for both the sender and receiver. So only the function to delete your own PM's is available.
Space wise - PM's are not really using much space or causing issues.
I'm working on the emails (still). I can assure removing PM's won't help on that front 😊

Hi Graham,
The right hand side of the message there should be a tab that says 'Edit" click on that.
When it opens there is a black strip at the top, and on the left of it is a little bin icon click on that and it will go.
As far as i know unfortunately you will have to delete each text box individually.

Hi Guys,
I spent a lot of time today going through my Private message's and deleting lots of them.
And i still have a lot to go through.
I suppose it is my fault for letting them build up.
It would be a good idea if we all went through them and deleted the ones we on longer need.
We could save quite a bit of valuable site server space.
