Young at heart 😉 Slightly older in other places.😊 Cheers Doug
Of course I did Ian. Just pulling your anchor chain 😁
(FLEET Admiral's privilege Buffer 😉)
Actually I figured it was the work of the dreaded 'Autocorrect' again not you 🙄
Thinking back to some hotels I've been in where the service was abysmally slow it struck me that a 'Hotel Speed Controller' would be a kinda handy gadget to have!
Cheers, Doug 😎

Hi Ian,
From the photo of the stern in profile in your previous post, it looked as if there was a bit at the top that stuck out like a shelf. That was what intrigued me.
Cheers, Nerys

When the winds before the rain, soon you may make sail again, but when the rain's before the wind, tops'l sheets and halyards mind
Hi Ian,
Please post your Coast Guard Boat in your Harbour with more information about her.
I am sure the members would like to see more of her.
Martin555.
Hi Nerys,
Will post a photo of her stern.

Nice looking boat Ian, but I am intrigued by the shape of her stern. Perhaps when you let us see pictures of her in the water, I'll be able to see it from other angles and get a better idea of what it's all about.
Cheers, Nerys

Good morning Ian, that's a very smart looking craft.
Not far off now to getting her on the water, let's have some action video or pictures.
Cheers Colin.

Hi Colin and Doug,
I’m uploading a photo of the Coast Guard boat, still needs work doing on the upper structure. I’ve reworked the rudder linkage as it was not very positive. I’ve also acquired a receiver and am now awaiting delivery of the battery pack.

Bad luck Colin 🤔
I lost my first one too, no idea where.😭
Mum kindly replaced it 5 years ago when I was in Eastbourne for her 90th birthday😀
So I treated her to a slap up nosh in a great pub in the marina.😋😋😋
Since then Mum has had to give up the house and now lives in a protected flat in Beeston (Nottingham) near my sister.
So now I treat my cap like my AmEx card - I don't leave home without it 😉
I treasure it more than the Commandant caps that I received from various navies and ships during my career.
All the best U2 Cs,
Doug 😎

Doug, must be a thing with Mum's, I had the same hat from mine, but lost it while out fishing out in the Irish Sea with my Dad and my Son about 20 years ago.
Must look for a replacement when I get to the coast again.
Cheers Colin.

I agree Colin👍
I don't go to shows (I'm not as well equipped or skilled as you are to do that) but my wooden boats; Sea Scout, scratch built balsa / ply destroyer and lime plank sandwich U25 submarine (all vintage now 30 years plus), always attract attention and discussion at the lakeside. 😊
Not to mention poking sticky fingers 😠 and the inevitable question 'Where did you buy it mister?' 🙄
Cheers, Doug 😎
PS Funny you should mention older Sea Dogs Colin, OLD SEA DOG is exactly what is stitched in gold on my cap. A present from me dear ol' Mum, from Eastbourne Marina 😊

Ian you surely must take Doug's advice and blog it.
Us older Sea dogs love these vintage boats, they certainly give pleasure to many people of all ages at the shows I go to with my collection.
Do it man, cheers Colin.

Me too Ian, you've only got 4 years on me 😉
I (and I guess many other members) would much like to see how you get on with your TLC 👍
Blog it Man!! 😁
Bon chance mon ami.
Doug 😎
BTW I'd like a Hotel Speed Controller like that😀, I've been in some hotels around the world where the room service could do with a jab in the derrière! 😆

Hi Doug,
I’m 74 so I guess I would be classed as vintage.
The guy I got the boat from said he found it in his father’s loft when he was clearing it after he had passed so I reckon you would be correct in saying it was 70’s ish.
It was reasonably built but requires some attention and TLC.

Both the boat and the ESC I would guess Ian.
70s - 80s vintage I would say. (A bit younga n me!🙄)
Gotta pic or 2 of the boat and installation? 😉
Cheers, Doug 😎

That is brilliant Doug, I must admit I haven’t come across a speed controller like this before. I assume this boat was built quite some time ago.
Cheers. 🍻

My pleasure Ian.
Re Setting up.
I have a similar Hitec / Aristo-Craft ESC which happily ran the two 540s in my destroyer for many years.
You have two controls (tiny pots) to set up the Neutral point and max forward speed.
1 Set your TX throttle control (including any trim control) to the neutral (All Stop) point.
If the motor still runs adjust the ESC pot until it stops.
2 Set your TX throttle stick to max forward and adjust the ESC pot for the max speed on the water that you want. If the ESC gets too hot to touch back off the top speed a little.
Have fun 👍
Cheers, Doug 😎

Hi Ian,
That ESC is actually made by Aristo-Craft.
"ARISTO-CRAFT SPEED CONTROL WITH REVERSE B.E.C. SYSTEM Working Voltage 5.0 V to 9.0 V Continuous Current Forward 20A Continuous Current Reverse 10A Reverse LED Indicator".
Being from the 80s it probably uses Darlington transistors and not FETs like modern ones.
So there'll be a voltage drop of around 0.7V and it may get warm at full chat.
Hence all the heat sinks sticking out the top.
Hope this helps 😉
Cheers, Doug 😎

Hi Rockbag.
I am afraid that I have no personal knowledge of this particular type, but I feel sure there will be someone who has the knowledge for you.
In the mean time I have just typed the model into my search engine and it comes up with many forums and information sites.
For example....
rcuniverse.com
www.rctech.net
Plus many others.
Hope that is of some small help.
Regards Bill

Hi Guys,
I recently acquired a Billings Coast Guard model to renovate.
It has a Hitec SP-2040R speed controller, has anyone got information on this item and maybe setup instructions?
Thanks in advance.
