It would be good to see the members stands so could you post photos.
Please as other members might like to make the same stands.

Stands

Not sure Peter on how Colin builds stands .I use two frames. Transfer the shape on to a piece of 1/2 " ply 6" in height width changes depending each boat. Add the thickness of my planking cut out shape.I then get 3/8" or 1/2" doweling drill hole for the size of dowel and cut dowels to the length need for the boat.It works well and is light weight and sturdy.

Do you have sketches of the stand design Colin, or any other stand maker for that matter. I would like to make nice stands for my boats when completed as the wife wants them on display in the house. All right Martin, I may not need the design for a while!

I cannot promise to finish one project before starting another. I know, I tried.

Stands

I'm with you Colin 👍
Especially since my boats/ships vary in size from 7" to 57" 😮
Sometimes, for convenience and to save weight when carrying to the lake or as temporary supports 'on the slipway', I use carved blocks of expanded foam packing saved from various deliveries. 😉
For the smaller ones I often make stands from plastic sheet or 3 or 5mm acrylic. (Perspex!)
Like you Colin; it depends on what's kicking about getting in the way 😁
Cheers, Doug 😎
Young at heart 😉 Slightly older in other places.😊 Cheers Doug

Stands

Hi Martin, I always build a new stand which then stays with that particular boat.
And I make most from 1/2" ply or wood depending on what's available in my stock at the time, as I use the same one for transportation and display.
Cheers Colin.

Universal Model Boat Stand,
Medium for hulls up to about 5″ beam. £8.00

Large for hulls 5 – 9″ beam £10.00

These are available to purchase from there eBay store,

Fred
That's all right, Mr Ryan. My Morse is so rusty, I could be sending him dimensions on Playmate of the Month.

Stands

Hi Guys,

When making your models do you make a temporary work stand for each model or do you have a stand that is fully adjustable to suit all different shapes and sizes of boat.?
