Great video, is that the boat pond on New Brighton front where I spent many a happy time back in the early 50's sailing my toy yacht whilst staying with my Gran in Birkenhead during the school summer holidays, it was seeing a large steam powered model of the I believe the Queen Mary sailing there that started my love of model boats.

What a fantastic video and so well put together. I wish we had a facility like that close by me in Auckland. The night shots were great and to see the tugs working took it to another level. Love all the models and the way they performed. Cheers Ian. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Wish there was a club like that in Munich.
The last one vanished about 25 years ago.
So I'm mostly a lone sailor nowadays.
Occasionally an ARTR or RTR wannabe or a few 'yachets' and that's it.
I'll check what's happening next weekend, if it's not p-ing down as forecast๐Ÿ™„

I wanted to find a cheep Diesel sound generator looked around and found one It's not very load but sounds pretty good for around $ 16.00 Canadian. P/S it's been a few months since I worked on the tug and man is it dusty. Next chore cleaning off all the dust.

Sounds very authentic. Does it increase in sound as you open the throttle? That would be cool if it did. I need one for a v8 for my model of Thunderbolt. Do you know if one is offered? Cheers Ian.

I bought this boat in reasonable condition five years ago from an estate sale. The original geared 540 brushed motors were rusted beyond repair, so I replaced them with a pair of 2830 1000kv brushless motors, running off a pair of 6 cell NiMH packs.
I use a transmitter mix to allow the model to rotate on the spot and perform scale-like docking manoeuvres.

I could try ice breaking with my Graupner Glasgow, but I suspect it would make like a duck and waddle drunkenly over the ice! The ice in our pond is not thick enough to support a man's weight, but when I lived in Finland, a group of us who flew model planes would drive out onto a frozen lake and fly - we even lit barbecues on the ice to cook the fish we caught there. It was a bit colder there than it is in the UK, often -25 to -35 degrees centigrade.

Now, That was funny ... but I dunno ... have you ever walked out into the freezing cold water of a pond to rescue a stuck boat? Do you think a paddle tug would do a better job of smashing the ice? Any way, I smashed that like button!!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

I have way to much time to waste raking up the leaves & bagging them but I am still working on some of the models I got & this time it's the Bluenose kit that had all the masts broken off . I started it while our model boat club was at the Caledonia wood show . I try my best to get people to be interested in model boat building while I'm repair the model. The sails are up & now for the rat lines & a little painting & a few touch up here & there!

Ronald, that's because the current master is no where neart the calibre of Angus Walter and the other captains of the Grand Banks fleet. Angus greatest love was hoisting full canvas and seeing how she'd do.

You rarely see one as an RC mostly static with full sails. When we were in Lunenberg the Bluenose was not sailing with all of them up. Just the three seen on your model.

In every yard sale find you come across a box that at first you think its just a bunch of junk .But I came upon a half kit with lots of parts missing The Swift 1805 . The model boat club I'm in did a show at the wood show in Caledonia so I bought a sheet of plywood just for this Swift's keel & frames . I also found a Bluenose model that had masts broken in Needed of some major repairs.

Hi all I really liked that picture. It is by Joseph Kernon and I found another of his paintings with the same subject including a better view of the small schooner he is holding.

Maybe a relation or the old fellow next door but the sailing boat looks like it exists. Is the hull in shadow in the other picture?

That is a good interpretation but maybe there is a deeper explanation?

He has discovered an understanding of what he can do and has been doing for many years, He is not going along with the crowd but seeing a different path.

He has grown up integrated, able to visualise and then plan and then make something which will be surprising to his peers.

He has something that many look for but never find. "Satisfaction".

I am continuing with that yard sale find the Puffer is done so on to the next . I'm not keen on static sailing ships but I can't pass up a project like a major repair of the 1765 USS Bonhomme Richard . She will have no sails but have all the rigging . We always have turkey for thanksgiving a day early so I have some time to today to play.
