About this boat

When we got married and moved to live in Exmouth in 1971, our first “winter letting” was just a few yards away from Exmouth Models!
I bought this new kit then, but moved house several times since then and have still not finished it 😳

The wood had dried-out over the last 50+ years and became harder to work with and bend to shape, and needed some heavy duty restraints (wood screws) around the bows to hold the side skins in place while the glue dried!

Now, the model is fully skinned and has had some undercoat so I will picture it again when it is ready to sail ........hopefully this will not take another 50 years to complete.......

I have a patrol Launch which I completed as a partly built kit inherited from my father. As it was my first build I was unsure of how to finish the hulls exterior. I painted the hull with body shop aerosol paint, which unfortunately after a sessions use started to peel away in a couple of places. I have stripped the hull back and just need some advise on the best way to finish the hull in order to gain strength, durability and most of all, a nice finish.

Can the members offer any help?

    Many thanks in advance!

    Hi Jon,
People often use a thin layer of fine fibre glass and resin it takes some skill, there may be information on the internet
    specifically on model boats.

This video may give you an idea of what's involved

    Regards Roy
