My Waveney lifeboat recently purchased but since re motored and its been on a serious diet to get rid of almost half a kilo of white metal fittings from the wheelhouse. I have replaced the single esc with a twin 50 amp set up and switched the motors to 850's. The result is now a far more stable model and true scale speed. Next up is to fit a rotating radar and working lights, its a lovely model a credit to the original builder and I'm hoping my extra details will take it to the next level.

Im not sure of the composition of the "white metal alloy" I just know it's heavy! The search light, radar and compass binnacle being the heaviest items followed by the wheel and its mounting. Given their position in the wheelhouse this was a lot of weight to have above the waterline and it really made the boat unstable.

    Alessandro,

"White Metal" is sort of a generic term for:

"A metal alloy that may include antimony, tin, lead, cadmium, bismuth, and zinc (some of which are quite toxic). Not all of these metals are found in all white metal alloys. Metals are mixed to achieve a desired goal or need."

Another common name for it is "Pot Metal":

"Pot metal is typically made from a combination of common, less precious metals like zinc, lead, copper, tin, aluminum, magnesium, iron, and cadmium; essentially, a mix of scrap metals melted together in a "pot" which gives it its name, making it a relatively inexpensive alloy with a low melting point, often used for casting parts due to its ease of molding"

It is not common for white metal to contain (much) lead in recent years. Even our (US) wheel weights, shotgun shot, and fishing lures no longer contain lead.

    Hope that helps,
    Dave B

    Is that alloy mainly lead-based?

Hi Martin, I like how it looks in the water.

I really appreciate you paying attention to realistic speed.

Sorry, out of curiosity, but I have never bought kits for rc models and I don't have extensive experience in general: what metal is white metal? What chemical element is it composed of, or is it an alloy?

Excellent to remove half a kilo and keep the waterline correct.
