About this boat

I acquired 'Kathryn' from Buck who fitted her out. I hope to add some extra features to her to get her closer to an authentic Bawley but for now just having fun sailing her.

It's just as well my wife is called Kathryn too!

Finally spent some time rigging her to be boomless and still work. I think the mainsheet horse works ok. There is a little kink at each end of the horse to catch the sheet on the leeward side but still will travel over when tacking, though needs a bit of a jiggle sometimes.

Yes there were a few little gusts on that day but mainly I was sailing with the rudder only with the other hand taking a picture so was often off the wind but close hauled so I was broaching a lot.

I just tried to upload a video onto its harbour and it didnt work. Is there a method? Maybe I might use a link to google photos...

    Oh, I forgot!

Welcome to this beautiful website managed by Stephen (FireboaT).

Even if you are not a boat builder, you can share here photos and videos (mostly videos for me) of navigations.
I am always very interested in navigations, especially sailing.

    Ah! What a fool I am, I hadn't read Flaxybybuck's message yet.

So this is the Kathryn that Flaxybybuck built?
Great to see you again on this site.

Thank you so much Ned for including it here in your harbour.
    Excellent.

    Hi Ned Hogan.
From the way the boat was bent there must have been a strong wind, ideal for sailing, I think you're having fun.
    Excellent purchase.

I have one very similar, possibly built from the same plans. One tip I was advised is, (if your bowsprit is retractable) when extended use a piece of cocktail stick to lock it in place rather than a metal pin.
In event of a collision with the bank or another boat the cocktail stick should snap, thus reducing the damage!
These boats a great fun to sail, enjoy.

I am so pleased you are taking such good care of Kathryn. It is very satisfying to know that she is in good hands. 😉
