About this boat

I was doing some cleaning/purging in my basement storage area the other day. I ran across my FIRST EVER model boat! I knew I had it somewhere, but hadn't seen it in many years ....
I got this boat as my one allowed souvenir on a family vacation which I believe was in either 1959 or 1960. The box lid says $3.75 or $4.15 with batteries!
I must have liked it enough to take pretty decent care, as I think it looks good for its age.
Can anybody provide more information about the boat? The manufacturer, what this model name might have been, etc? There is one small logo on the box cover, which I have added a picture of, and a label that says No. K-152 Japan
I'm pretty excited about finding this long misplaced start to my model boat addiction.

    Having your first model boat is always a special moment - I still have the very first model I was given - a scratch-built, hand-carved pond yacht about 15 inches long, which originally had vane steering, which was never successful. It was made by my uncle - Jack Foster, and given to me for Christmas 1958. ( I still have the photo of me receiving the present!!). Picture attached, the yacht required a new deck, as the old plywood deck had given up, and the original sails made by my aunt have long rotted away. The model used to be painted red, but when I re-decked it, with proper planking, I stripped it back to show the beauty of the wood used. As it never had a name, I named it Jack Foster, as an acknowledgement to my uncle.

    What a wonderful find, Dave!

    Preserving your very first model boat from the late 1950s in such remarkable condition is impressive.

    It’s amazing how a childhood souvenir can spark a lifelong passion.

    Thanks for sharing this piece of model boating history—what a treasure and a great reminder of where the journey began! 🚤😊

    @jumpugly Is MM the manufacturer?
    I looked at the link you provided and that one is an inboard drive.
    I also saw an MM3, whch was also an inboard.
    I don't see any outboard boats like this on eBay.
    If MM is the manufacturer, I'd love to find more about the company and product line.

    PS I have found the outboard listed separately. It is a Mermaid OB-5.
    I'm quite sure this boat came with the motor, but the retailer might have bundled them for the sale.
    PPS I've found this one, which is the closest I've spotted so far. But it doesn't have the nice battery box, nor the "fuel tank" electric connector ... https://www.ebay.com/itm/397727449615?itmmeta=01KVQXB7552KYP3QJHPNWS8DQ7&hash=item5c9a67420f:g:aI8AAeSwh6hpuYQE&itmprp=enc%3AAQALAAAAwDKQclQvzFwZQpmMrsO4LuqMStP3eFBt018vAZwk14X0YO%2FRvlWcnxEq%2Fa7gc1W%2FzbAu9%2Bp8iQvOi3XeBzUZvyqvs7qFhFPn2jnExF7eBn9UsG0Nd8ezgInFlq5SoFK6S2UXhtOue4KrJJMNvcSmTvacx20m1mY4Ie5tvKv7lMG14OhAOxx35qwHsI0MXA9IPpuc6U72m06m5lYhIfiqFYAhPnR7A0dusxGRt3FhVWGcHr%2F5u8yK3D86B0LzOUKRzg%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-TyrP3dZw
