Built from a Trumpeter kit, scale 1/200. I found the kit to be of excellent quality with very nearly 2,000 parts. I upgraded the main armament to metal gun barrels and treated my self to a wooden deck - well worth the extra expense.
I also purchased the RC conversion kit from Deans, which was quite expensive, but once more worth the extra expense.
The only problem is that this was designed as a showcase model and a lot of the fine detail does not cope at all well with the rigours of the pond side. It is only launched on very special occasions

Dire Straits / Mark Knoffler is right up my alley😊

So now you start on the special functions huh?πŸ˜‰

Excellent build Steve, have got one of these myself, had it for over a year, just can't find time to start it, and have bought all the extra PE sets available for The Hood, as you say, more parts to break off!😊

    Cheers, Pete

Thanks Doug. Too fiddly for me at this scale for special functions, but please check my harbour when I have had time to moor the rest of my fleet.

    Come come young chapπŸ˜‰
I have the 1/350 version an' I reckon that has potential for some fun stuff.
At the very least SMD LEDs for the NAV lights.
Micro servos for the turrets .....!
I also figured that maybe auto elevation of the main armament as they traverse could be done by fitting a profile rail inside the turret and spring loading the breech end of the barrels against it. As the turret turns the barrels elevate to follow the railπŸ˜€
Then I 'just'πŸ™„have to miniaturise JB and Graham93's gun blast smoker!!

    I drive a Toyota - "Nothing's impossible" 😁
Keep on dreaming folks, no dreams ......
    Happy building,
    Cheers, Doug 😎
PS when I did a max load check on my 1/350 KGV (thanks ColinπŸ‘), PoW and Hood I found that they can take a payload of around 900 to 1000gm.
So I reckon your 1/200 job can carry much more πŸ˜‰

    Superb model Steve.
I have just bought the Trumpeter 1:200 Hood along with the Prontos upgrade set and the Deans RC upgrade. Everything looks highly detailed and good quality except I am a little disappointed with the Deans upgrade. Three of the four prop shafts are bent and of very poor quality. It is a shame because the motors appear to be the MPA 385`s and the propellers are Raboesch so why go cheap on the tubes and shafts. I told Deans about the shafts but decided to replace them with Raboesch myself to avoid the same poor quality units being the replacements. They were only Β£6 each. I am looking forward to starting the build next year.

Funny you should mention bent prop shafts!
I had a big fall out with Ron Dean over the very same thing.
Having bought the kit and upgrade from him I found that one of the shafts was bent. When I asked for a replacement he insisted that I return my bent one first so it could be examined. The reason, he said was that "some of you modellers"damage parts yourself and expect me to replace free of charge or you just want to "fiddle" and extra bit.
I pointed out that having spent all that money with him, why was he quibbling over what amounted to be a short length of threaded piano wire?
Here the conversation ended and I went elsewhere for a replacement.
I haven't used the company since.
I found the build to be very enjoyable and satisfying as I am sure you will.
