Hi, this looks a great project, are you sure one 850 motor is enough for this big boat?

Further to discussions on the forum these pictures show measuring speed with a Garmin Geko 201.
They were taken 30/11/08 on a partly frozed lake, Bradford Moor, West Yorks.

This is how I measure my speed - I use a Garmin Geko 201 outdoor hand held gps.
We tried it on my friends boat week last sunday, we could have got a better recording, but most of the lake was frozen.
The gps is turned on & setup for max speed then wrapped in a polythene bag & put safely in the boat. When returned to bank, the max speed is recorded, very handy but not the cheapest, you only need one in a club or a bunch of boaters. I've put up a couple of pics to show what the speed is, on this run it was 14.1 kph converted to 8.76 mph (not as fast as you think!), but when the water is a bit more liquid I'll try for a better speed with new batteries.

Built the boat in the late 50's & just recently rescued from the loft, where a family of mice had made a nest in it.
Originally had an E.D. racer diesel engine,
then recently a single electric motor & now a twin motor setup trying to make it steer a bit better, still trying! (Motor: Johnson 12v fan cooled (i think out of battery drill ) - £20 for 5!) (ESC: Mtroniks Viper) (5/10)

    Hi.
what motors & power supply will you be using?
I've been trying a brushless motor & li-po's - I had heard that they were good, but I never expected the power from such a small motor - incredible technology.
With my crash tender being on twin drive it will be far too much power, so I tried it on another boat.

    Cheers

Thanks for the reply, I was hoping to get some alternative methods for sealing the well deck (or cockpit). The way you have done seems the right thing to do & I will make mine the same - I think I will make it in fiberglass.
I'll post some pics when I have it completed.
Your boat seems very well made - is it a modern kit?
Can we have some more pics.

    Cheers

    Hi,
I have a 36" crash tender and have had the same problem since I built It (1959, I dont like to rush things!).
It has been made to the drawings which means the aft well deck Is a piece of plywood balanced on a ledge, so Its In effect open to the elements. What has everybody else done to keep this part watertight?
Any suggestions would be very welcom because I don't think I'm the only one with this problem.

    Cheers,

    am35
