Neither did I until I spole to cupalloys.
You need a solder specifically for stainless.

Today has been productive.
I fitted the wooden handrails and made and fitted the pushpit and pullpit rails. These are made of 3mm stainless soft soldered together.

๐ How do I fit a propellor shaft ?

I am not really too sure what you mean by conical housings around the shafts, perhaps a sketch might help?
The small amount of play you need is along the length of the shaft. The clearance between the diameter of the shaft and diameter of the bearing bushes has to be as small as possible but still allow the shaft to rotate freely without the shaft vibrating and rattling around.

Paul, dont worry about it, I saw something that would have been ok on 3mm, just not 1mm.
Alan, I ordered some of that trim yesterday afternoon, it arrived today and looks perfect for the job.
Well done that man!
Cheers

Meanwhile, I have done a bit on the cockpit, all loose fitted at the moment.
I think I may have solved the windscreen issue with a little help from another member, I have ordered some car body work trim that appears to be the right size, so, fingers crossed!

Paul,
Your B&Q must be better than ours, I couldnt find anything like you suggested. The nearest was white plastic edge trim which was far to big to go over 1mm lexan.

Right then I am now a little stumped and looking for suggestions.
I have cut out the windscreen from 1mm lexan and want to create a frame effect around it.
I have tried adhesive aluminium tape, which seems to be ok until I get to curves, at which point it just buckles and tears.
Does anyone have any suggestions I might try?

Hi
Tonight I have made the throttles for the control desk.
The main part is aluminium, with the handles in brass.
The whole thing is 20mm long and 20 wide, the slots are cut with a junior hacksaw and the brass is 1.8mm diameter/
It was tricky!

Hi,
I used a hot air stripper. Mine has 3 heat settings, I used the mid setting and kept the blower about 2ft away and heated gently.

I fancied having a go at something else today, so, I decided to make some new side air vents.
Fortunately, the ones that came with the boat (wreck) were useable for taking a casting from, which I did in plaster of paris. They came out just fine.
Next, had a look at some peg board for the surface plate. Once recovered from the shock of the price for a bit of mdf covered in holes, I went to a diy store and bought an offcut of mdf for 10p and set to with my drill.
Next, a box was built for the holy mdf to sit on, with a tube to tape the hoover to underneath, and a frame to support the plastic sheet was knocked up.
The first couple of attempts weren't so good, but I soon got the hang of it and am pleased with the results.

So, this week I have done a little more, progress is slow but relentless!
The hull has now been painted and covered with 2 coats of satin varnish.
I have also made a card template for the windscreen and cut slots in the top deck to fix it into. Next, it will be making a screen from 1mm lexan and see if it fits!

Yes, its milled from a solid lump of aluminium.
The first attempt was stainless, that destroyed a milling tip in the process, and I made a boo boo with it that resulted in the two webs coming out in different thicknesses.
The second attempt, in aluminium, I forgot to lock the vertical feed during a cut which resulted in a nice, but unwanted slope on what was supposed to be a flat surface.

I thought I would make a bow roller next, well, it wasnt as easy as I had hoped. After 2 botched attempts I ended up with this.
(the drill is temporary until the right size bolt turns up).

Its been a few weeks since the last update - holidays, work etc.
I have made and fitted window frames, a cabin door in the cockpit and some handrails (to be fitted).
I cut the handrails from some scrap mahogany, each one is two lengths of 2 mm glued together and cut using the milling machine, nice and easy that way.
