Andy, I think that I have already had a good look through the modelboatmayhem and modelboats.co.uk items that you mention. There is a rather nice build of a Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter in this months 'Model Boats' magazine and I am corresponding with the editor with a couple queries about it, but certainly not criticisms. I am looking forward to seeing what the outcome is.
So far as length of time building model boats is concerned, I moved on from model aircraft when my reactions were slowing down and I have been building model boats for some years now. I think that I am at an age where I really should not consider any new builds but could not resist the temptation of a BCPC. Fingers crossed, will have to see how it goes. I must say that I shall probably find some of your photos very useful.

Everything looking absolutely brilliant. I am gleaning as much as I can from this build as I have ordered a 'Katie' hull and drawings. There seem to be quite a few 'Katies' already built or being built at the moment. It's difficult to know which one to concentrate on. Keep up your excellent work andy.

    ๐Ÿ“ motor fitment

Must agree with ChrisF about the red Huco couplings. I had one break up some time ago and it damaged not only itself but the interior of the boat. I now stick with the metal to rubber ones. Mobile Marine Models used to do a set of turned fittings of various sizes to cover different variations of motor shaft/prop shaft so that you can hold the motor in a solid alignment - they may still do them. I have had my set for quite some time and have machined up various others from aluminium rod (eBay) on my lathe as needed.

Got the plans from Sarik this morning and very pleased with them although there is some fading in some of the lines, possibly due to the passage of time, but will not cause any problems. If anyone is interested there is a listing in the 'other' Model Boats website showing the renovation/build of an Eileen by a modeller in Tasmania. The link is - https://www.modelboats.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=146649&p...

I have seen several of these at UK model shows and have always been impressed by the lovely models that have been built.
If anyone is interested Sarik are doing an offer on the drawings at ยฃ10.63 plus p&p.
This the link to the website - https://www.sarikhobbies.com/product/eileen-mm737/
I may never get round to building it but have ordered the plans as a matter of interest.

What a pity that you have decided to give up Jon, especially as you seemed to be making such an excellent job of it. I am much too old to take on any more models but good luck with your sale. I would suggest that if there are no takers at a reasonable price just hang on to it - the enthusiasm may return.

You are now just being insulting to people who are trying to help you. I, for one, have tried to help you with suggestions to improve your boat but you are just going round in circles. I would suggest a visit to your local model shop to see if they can help. I will NOT answer any more of your queries and I would suggest that other members do the same.

Completely agree with you, Chris. Nothing less than a big brushless motor etc., would suffice. I only hope that Maverick will follow our advice and he will then have a boat that he can be happy with.

I think that you are being talked into a corner that, eventually, you will not be happy with and may find that you are still struggling to get any great speed out of your boat. If it was me I would use a brushless outrunner with its appropriate ESC and a 3S lipo battery (11.1volts) or even a 4S battery (14.8volts). You will find that (in general) brushless motors are related to aircraft and cars but are equally suitable for model boats. Have a look at Component Shop website for ideas. As a point of interest I tend to use car ESCs as some of them have a built-in cooling fan. Hope this helps.

Michel-Claude has PM'd me with a picture of 'Penn Duick' which, I believe, was a fench Pilot Cutter and was completely different to the Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter. Have a look at this link for details and terrific pictures of 'Breeze', a typical Bristol Channel boat - https://woodenships.co.uk/sailing-yacht/bristol-channel-pilo...
I will see if I can find a link to a model boat and post it.

    ๐Ÿ“ Building a Tug
6 months ago by Derek 151 ( Petty Officer 2nd Class)

I think you may find that MMM kits are rather expensive (but aren't they all these days) Their system of buying 'packs' as you need them for your build does spread out the cost but, when all added together are rather costly but probably a good way of building if you want to do one of their kits. The quality of their kits and accessries are very good.
Another site worth having a look at is - orionmouldings.com - his GRP mouldings are excellent and I believe that although he is mainly hulls he now does a kit for a tug. Another one that does 2 or 3 tug kits is - http://www.tonygreensteammodels.co.uk/index.php?main_page=in... These are nice kits as they were taken over from Dave Metcalf kits.

Many thanks for your replies, gents and your various suggestions.
I do not wish to stir things up at the club so will just leave things as they are. If they are doing things wrong it is really up to them to sort it out.
Many members of this forum agree that the funds are excessive and for what I would get from being a member are just not worth it so will not rejoin.

At 88 and in rather poor health I think that I am too old to start helping out with the administration of the club.
The general opinion seems to be that the fees are too high and that, combined with my comment in the last sentence, I don't think that I will be joining again. I was hoping that I might be able to get along to the lake, even if just to watch others sailing but all this and a 22 mile round trip makes it hardly worth while.
I will have to do my boating on my computer and dream about the past with models and full size yachts.๐Ÿ˜€โ›ต๐Ÿšค

I think you are right in what you say about being 'an innocent middle party'. I presume that the ยฃ25 to the gravel company or the angling club (not sure which) covers their insurance cost and the ยฃ35 fee is the cost of insurance to the model club to cover their activities.

Thanks for your reply Peewit. All I get from the 'organiser' is an email with an attachment setting out the two fees that I have shown, to be returned to him along with the fees, a self addressed and stamped envelope and a passport size photograph so that a membership card can be returned along with the code for the lock on the gate.
I agree with you that, it would appear, things are not being done correctly but, as I have already said, I do not think that I am the person to point this out to him.

Many thanks for your replies. I don't think that the person running the club is doing it for any personal financial benefit. I just think that the 'club' is not being run properly as a club but I am not prepared to tell the organiser what he is doing wrong as I do not feel that I am in a position to do so, especially if I do not continue with my membership. The lake that is used is owned by a large gravel company and I presume the ยฃ25 part of the fees goes to them. The lakes are also used for angling.
The club that I belonged to when I lived in Hertfordshire was run properly with chairman, treasurer, etc. and the accounts and running of the club could be scrutinised at the AGM with any points arising being discussed. Unfortunately there are no other clubs near me and I am too old to go chasing about trying to find another one.โ˜น๏ธ
