Thanks Ed very interesting video and what a great sailing machine the Malabar is, just proves how good the old sailing boats were whichever side of the pond they were designed and built. Just look at the extraordinary J class.

She is beautiful and a credit to you and your patience, I am very envious of the lucky person who wins the forthcoming bidding war. Great that the money will go to such a worthy cause.
I must admit I would prefer that my model could be sailed, what a wonderful sight that would be. Maybe one for my future build list, so many beautiful model boats to build and so little time๐ค Regards ChrisG ▲

Exquisite Ed, a truly beautiful result๐๐๐
Do you also make jewellery in your 'spare' time?๐ I sympathise with your grappling with the rigging. Some 30 years ago (just before digital cameras I'm afraid๐ค) I was asked to renovate a model of the four masted barque Pamir, one of the 'Flying Ps', which the lady's grandfather had made. It was only about 12" but fully square rigged๐ฎ I made copious notes and sketches and took many 35mm photos. The many sails were sealed in ziplock bags labelled Foremast, Main mast and Mizzen. Even so putting it all back together and re-rigging after dismantling, washing the sails and ratlines, cleaning and revarnishing masts, decks and deck fittings, repainting hull was a nightmare which ruined my sleep for weeks. Might have been easier at 48" LoA, like your schooner, instead of 12๐ I tried hard to keep the model 'as per Grandpa' but I've often wondered since; How much was grandpa and how much was me in the result? Main thing, the lady was pleased and it took pride of place on her mantelpiece. Man was I relieved!๐ Can't wait to see your next project Ed, great work๐ Cheers, Doug๐ ▲

Well done Ed, an incredible job, and you certainly went that extra mile with your fine detailed fittings blocks, and rigging. An absolutely beautiful boat and a credit to your skills and patience. I will be very interested to hear the selling price of this beautiful schooner. Regards, Gary.

Hi Ed, that is one hell of a transformation on that boat, you have turned it into a work of art a very nice-looking schooner, the repairs matching in beautifully with the original timbers. You have certainly doubled the value of what it was. I was pleased to see once again the artwork in the corner, especially that wonderful picture,"not tonight it's a headache." Take good care of yourself, and best wishes for the New Year, regards, Gary.

ChrisG another modeling site filled me in. She's a model of Malabar ll. John Alden designed and built several boats for himself, all called Malabar, which he raced and cruised. There is a nice kit offered for this Malabar, but this is a prebuilt solid shelf model. Best, Ed

Thanks for the information re the beautiful Schooner, she bears a resemblance to Bluenose of which I have plans, topsides certainly different as your renovated model is of a `Gentlemens Yacht` where Bluenose was a very quick fishing boat.
I will hunt some plans and it might well be my next project especially as I have a large stock of lovely cedar strip that nobody on the site seems interested in. All the very best to you and thanks ChrisG ▲

Ron H, thank you.
Tony Ash, lots of sanding, finishing with very fine wet and dry. Residue removed with mineral spirits. Spray paint was the better quality Rustoleum. ChrisG, I think this will have to be local pick up. From other model sites, we found it is a model of Malabar ll. John Alden built many Malabars for himself to cruise and race. This is a solid model of number 2, sold fully built, but there is also a quite different kit offered, many of which have been finished to a very high standard. This boat is a strange mixture. The hull and much of the woodwork is finished beautifully, but some fittings and rigging are fairly low quality. The cheap hooks on the end of lines is a tell tale sign for a boat made say in China or Russia, but she is still an impressive model, well worth saving. I hope you had an enjoyable Christmas and wish you all the best for the New Year. Thank you everyone for your interest. ▲

Hello and what a beauty, I would love to own that model and congratulations to you for a splendid rebuild, she looks an absolute treat.
Pity I will be unable to bid for her, just a few thousand more miles than I can travel to "collect" If you do find more information on what she is and if plans are available I would appreciate you letting me know. I would like to wish you a very Happy New Year Regards ChrisG ▲
