Thirty years ago this was the speed control that I purchased, from Dumas boats. Itโ€™s a resister type that uses a lot of power and needs a servo to operate. I will not be using it. She has two twelve volt Dumas motors still in great shape . They just need to be cleaned up a little and oil the bronze bushings.

I had vaguely-similar speed controls from GRAUPNER abt 2002 or so. I never tried to use them.

My 1st ESC was a 30A for a 540, " Maxx Speed MS3001" that still works. It features Low Throttle Start.

It brings tears in my eyes when I think about the good old mechanicals speed controllers knowing that I started with a 2 channel variophon with a kinematic system which navigates the model and the speed control.๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿค”

Beginning the process of refitting. Will be mostly a cleaning/painting project but will make some additional parts add to the ship. Today I cleaned the tail shafts and propellers/ hubs. The props are 2 inch Dumas props. Rather than use the usual drive dogs I machined flats to fit in the rear slot in the props . Looks much better the way this way in my opinion. I manufactured the cone nuts rather than use the out of scale nuts that are supplied with the props when you buy them. I made these shafts and nuts over thirty years ago.she had been in storage for all of that time.

Nice work!! This brought back a memory from the 1960s. My Dad served in the RCN in WW2. He was a writer in Halifax. His seaduty was cut short by severe asthma attacks aboard ship. He wud never talk abt it but I now believe he served aboard a Tribal-class destroyer. As soon as HMCS HAIDA arrived at Ontario Place he took my younger bro & i aboard. He didn't need a tour guide, he knew what, & where, everything was located. We were exhausted after a couple of hours. Dad was exhilarated !
Decades later my ham radio club restored the radioroom aboard her, just before she was taken away from Toronto & towed to Hamilton. My first wife's cousin Paul Couture was the Parks Canada historian responsible for the move.
