i found plans on a web site and based the scratch build on these.
The hull is plank on frame and you can see the stages on the attached photographs.
    i used recycled materials.

hi, the planks are lime wood which i ripped out of a plank using a band saw.
The planks are varied widths to suit the curve of the hull. They were soften in hot water for the bendy bits.

Added detail to the hull, rubbing strips, etc.
Decided to show riveting above the water line using round headed brass pins. Used thick card as plating, glued on using pva glue over the whole hull.
Deck areas planked using lime planks, caulking was just pencil.

    Hi Robert,
"How are you going to plate your build?"
Probably not at all, not in this life anyway!๐Ÿ˜
That's why I was hoping you'd like to pop over for a weekend and do it for me๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚
That would be a very long job (for me) on a 1.35m hull, and there's enough 'stuff' on the benches already!๐Ÿ™ˆ
Guess I'll just have to pretend that she had all the plates welded together during the refit before she (HMS Hotspur) was sold to the Dominican Republic.

    Hi Guys
    Thanks for your positive comments.
With respect to the overpainting of decks.
Its just the photographs are not in sequence. i planked the decks after the top coat.

"Amazing deck work. But you painted over it! Why? "
I think that's an 'optical delusion' Ron.
Looks to me like only the fore and aft (formerly 'poop'๐Ÿ˜ฎ) decks are wooden.
Both these sections must have been masked during the painting, sprayed by the look of it.
If you look closely at pic 5 you can see the 'unmasked' wood at the stern.
Pics 1 & 2 also appear to show the planked decks after the rest has been painted, cos they already have some deck fittings on them.
Another case of 'out of sequence' pics๐Ÿค”

    Nicely done Hillro๐Ÿ‘
Particularly like the plating and rivets๐Ÿ˜€
Would you like to come and do my 4' 5" (135cm) destroyer hull for me please!?๐Ÿ˜‰

The clyde puffer used a chain drive for the rudder.
After a lot of research and head scratching i came up with servo driven slide arrangement with some pulleys and chain which funny enough looks like the real thing. Bench test proved it works ok.

Made from plywood to a push fit over the hull. Rivets fitted as per hull.
Funnel is a tooth paste tube.
Kitted out the wheel house and fitted nav and cabin lighting.

Had to do a bit of research for this. I happened to visit Beamish museum.
Low and behold there was a steam driven winch just lying on the ground.
This gave me some idea of what a steam driven winch looked like.
Made from plasti card, some gear wheels, brass wire, etc. Very happy with the result.
This is the second attempt the first one was too big, wrong scale.

Bucket is the top of a spray can and the tools carved from limewood.
These items were use to load, unload bulk materials like stone and coal.
Using the ship's Derrick made it self sufficient.

Decided to use a 6 volt lead acid battery.
Made up a chassis containing fuses,(Halfords) common busbar ( eletrical wholesalers, earth bar.) other stuff like switches etc from spares box.
The drive motor was left over from a previous project , wrongly ordered.
its geared so not sure it is up to the task, we will see.

I don't know the weight of your boat but those MFA geared motors can be very effective. My police launch called Dunlin (in the boat harbour) uses one, geared 6:1, admittedly on 12v, with a 50mm three blade prop and she has plenty of power. That boat weighs 25lb. I do find them a bit noisy though so now tend to use low noise motors with an 0 ring drive on brass pulleys.

A friend said he'd quietened an MFA geared motor down by running the gearbox submerged in oil. I haven't tried this.
