Douglas Bader was one of my childhood heroes, up there with Lindbergh, the Apollo astronauts, Jimmy Doolittle and anybody who set records at Bonneville.
My reading material when I was in 3rd grade or so was aviation history, sports car and hot rod books and modelling books. Think that explains a lot..,oh, quite a bit of sci-fi too.

Good old Douglas Bader.
One of my heroes 👍👍👍
Pity there aren’t a few more like him today.
Also one of his best quotes was “Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men”
As well as “The successful pilots succeeded because they did not open fire until they were close to the target”
Plus many others.
Sorry folks, gone off the thread here.

There does appear to be an issue... could be my fault (well, kind of is!), as I spotted an error with sending out new trending topics to users... So it's the new topics doing it! I do believe it's now fixed, but email issues seem to take a day or so to catch up.

I'll keep an eye on it 👍

Hmm!
There's a clog up in the system somewhere!
Trending Topics and Notifications (both Onsite and in Emails) are lagging hours, and several posts, behind what is actually appearing in the threads.
Current examples:-
American Beauty, Mojo and Assurance Class tug ???

Yes and no, my wife and I have been getting the gardens ready for winter ❄️, plus enjoying this last bit of “warm” fall weather either biking or on the golf course. Model boats can wait till we really get cold n snowed under.

Yesterday’s golf…we had snow flurries at one point and my score showed it.

Sunday afternoon bike riding.

Tuesday, bought a used bike with XL frame for my 6’4” height. Then we took a short ride on the water front trail between Ajax and Pickering nuclear station on the shore of Lake Ontario.

Tomorrow is golf in the afternoon. 🤗

All I know is that until recently I was receiving about thirty emailed notifications a day, now it's about four. Perhaps we aren't writing as many posts as usual. I don't know, I'm just a simple sailor.

Not everything in Trending is emailed out. Brand new threads will be (if you've got 'New Trending Topics' set to notify), but that's it.

The trending page counts up whenever there are new posts in a thread that you've not yet seen. To have it email for every new post would exceed the allowed limits for the site, and bung up your inbox.

So just what you see in 'Notifications' is what you should receive in your inbox.

For the likes that don't appear on the members page; that is curious! It's possible that likes could be removed again, but it's my only theory. I've not seen it this side.

Morning Nerys.
I am having a similar problem but only on the odd occasions.
I also note that various likes are shown in notifications but don’t appear in the members like box at times.
I will drop a PM to Stephen (Fireboat) if he is not aware already.
Regards Bill.

Problem solved for you Nerys 👍

After diving into it, turns out the website had trouble sending emails to your address recently. It usually happens when the recipient email server is unreachable. In most cases it's a misspelling or old email service, in your case it was maybe a badly timed email with a short mail service outage.

Once it did this however, there wasn't a way to undo it. So I've actually now added a banner message under 'My Account' which will display if this happens again, prompting the re-confirmation of the registered email address.

Confirming an email address is as easy as clicking a link. I've already reconfirmed your email though, but for anyone else discovering they've stopped getting notifications, check your 'My Account' page for any red banners 😊

Are there any posts being sent to the website? because I'm not even getting anything showing up in the Forum, Build Blogs etc. I can't believe that nothing is being written. Nothing showing in Trending or Notifications. Is it possible that my computer has been hacked in some way?

I believe you mean from the HOME screen
select your user name (dave976) at the top of the screen or you can select your user name at the top left of the page and select My Profile.
Another window opens and there is a bar across the top of the page showing
Profile:Account:Messages
Selecting Account opens another window, and scrolling to the bottom shows
General Notifications and Specific notifications
There are buttons against various topics and selecting any results in notifications being sent. Unselecting a button stops notifications for that topic.

Does seem to work for me.

Nerys have you cleared the cache file on your computer?, you could be loading old data when you login to the site.

Thanks Martin

Hi Dave and Nerys,

If you click on your profile.
Then click on Account.
You should then be able to scroll down and you will find General Notifications.
You can then switch on or off the Notifications to suit your needs.

Hi Nerys
I seem to remember that there was a setting on the original Fireboats website to allow users to choose what notifications they received. I turned mine off as I was receiving so many emails that it was taking ages just to deal with my inbox.
I can't find any such setting on the site now so I agree with Martin, it's time for Stephen to investigate and perhaps advise members how to resolve this issue.
Just a thought, when you shut down your PC does it clear all data, ie Websites visited, cache etc?
I hope Stephen can help you restore normal service😊

Hi Dave, Alice has checked the spam and that's OK. We realise the problem is with the emails and Alice has checked everything she can think of. I have in the last few minutes had two notifications in my in box, both were saying they liked my last post. Have to wait and see if it is now working.

Hi Nerys
I assume you mean nothing has arrived in your computer inbox? If so the issue is with your email settings. You may have inadvertently marked an email from Model Boats as spam and so all or just some future emails will go in your spam box.
If you need help with resolving this, please ask,
Dave

Thank you both Colin and Jon for the congratulations. We have looked at settings with no success. I'm getting all my other regular emails, wanted and unwanted, it's just the Model Boat ones that are not showing up, but of course I picked up yours from the Forum. I make no claims to knowing anything about computers but even Alice can't work this one out.
