You will find a good performance at 6 or 7 amps, that is say 75 Watts or one tenth BHP. Use thick wiring and a 15 amp fuse and you can run on a 50 amp esc but do check that the esc can connect to 12 volts.
If you worry about amps then at 50 amps (English ones that is) and 12 volts that comes to 600 watts power the wiring will give out first, just follow the smoke!
750 Watts = 1 BHP.
Get yourself 2 or 3 different props to see which works best.
You are not the only one to get confused over amps, if you do want to do the simple calculations always try for the volts being a bigger number than the amps.
Hope this helps
All the best
