    Taffrail is the name of the railing itself. As for the extension of the bulwark around the stern it looks like it seems it is still called the bulwark and the taffrail is mounted on that (if there is one). Just my interpretation.

    What is that fence-kind-of-thing above the stern? One gent said it's the transom but i thought the transom was the lower thing adjacent to the waterline. Does this wall have another name?
    It's more than a handrail & stantions to keep crew from falling over the stern.
